This evening will feature stellar
artists including South Florida Jazz Hall of Fame Inductees The Billy Marcus
Trio, with the addition of very special guest vocalist, Ms. Sandy Patton!
Billy Marcus’ bands, including the great bassist, Don Mosely, and excellent
drummer Gary Duchaine, were among the most popular and successful in S. Florida
for over a decade during the mid-70’s and 80’s. They played every hot club,
venue and festival, and backed up national acts including James Moody, Mark
Murphy, Buddy DeFranco and more. Before joining the Swiss Jazz School
“Hochschule der Künst”, Ms. Patton toured with U of M’s Jazz Orchestra and
performed with artists including Lionel Hampton, Dizzy Gillespie, Clark Terry
and Cab Calloway. She will be traveling from her home in Switzerland to lend her
wonderful voice in celebration of the continuity of SJO’s impact on the Cultural
Arts and Jazz in South Florida.
The “SJO” has been spreading the gospel
of Jazz since 1986, and we are proud to say that we remain at the forefront
of our cultural arts community. We have maintained a respected reputation
through the continuity, quality and integrity of our diverse, year-round
programming. As a Miami-based, non-profit entity, our mission is to create and
promote Jazz awareness through producing opportunities for audiences of all ages
to experience the beauty and importance of America’s precious, indigenous music.
Through the support of
SJO’s members and sponsors, including the Hyatt Regency Miami, we expect
this celebration to be a memorable musical event. Admission is just $20.00 and
tickets can be purchased in advance through SunJazzOrg@aol.com, or at the Door. Please
