Jazz & Blues Florida June Edition NOT Posted - A Non-Issue

Truly, a non-issue.

As with any business, Jazz & Blues Florida cannot operate with expenses only. With major music events in Florida cancelling as far out as November, no margins from online shows for artists to afford promotion, limited capacity in venues, and uncertainty about the social fabric of our country holding together, there is not a place for Jazz & Blues Florida to extract a slice from the cash-flow in a manner that provides value to our clients and meets our operating needs. Rather than spend the business – and 14 years of hard work – out of existence, we are putting our monthly magazine in cover-only mode starting now. Our website will be re-vamped to reduce operating costs and to see if it is feasible to include online shows in listings. Our email and blog services will continue as requested by clients, and the social media will be as active as can be afforded. We will continue to operate in this manner until either the scene turns around or until we can no longer even afford to operate at this level. We'll keep you posted. Good will prevail, but not without the active support of good people.

Northwoods Blues Festival CANCELLED for June 19th and 20th, 2020 w/ Date Reset to 2021

Thursday, April 16, 2020
Official Announcement

"AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE ABOUT THE 2020 FESTIVAL

We have been told by many people that our 2020 Northwoods Blues Festival lineup was one of the best in the entire country. We agree!

We are now faced with the social distancing challenges of Covid 19 and want every one of our great blues fans to remain safe and healthy. After consulting with our local Health Department, we have decided to postpone/cancel/delay/defer (you pick the word) the 2020 Northwoods Blues Festival scheduled for June 19th and 20th, 2020.

We have rescheduled the next Northwoods Blues Festival for June 18 and 19, 2021 at Riverfront Park in Chippewa Falls. We asked each of our artists scheduled for NWBF 2020 and every one of them opted for a “rollover” to appear at the Northwoods Blues Festival 2021.

They are Friday June 18: Side Stage Stephan Cooper & Nobody Famous, Main Stage Howard “Guitar” Luedtke, Ivy Ford, Cash Box Kings and Curtis Salgado. Saturday June 19: Side Stage Harrison Street, Main Stage Mark Cameron Band, PK Mayo, The Ghost Town Blues Band, Toronzo Cannon and Southern Hospitality.

We understand plans can change (ours sure have) and we will refund any ticket requests. A non refunded ticket purchased for NWBF 2020 will automatically be good for NWBF June 18 and 19, 2021. All ticket purchase funds have been paid to Artists as deposits and we have not asked Artists for refunds of those deposits. We have rolled those deposits over for NWBF 2021. Our Artists are having financial stresses and need our support.

We hope you consider rolling your ticket purchase over to NWBF 2021, for what promises to be our best festival yet. We understand if you choose to receive a refund and appreciate your understanding and support. We will now be selling tickets for June 18 and 19, 2021 on our website.

Each existing ticket buyer will receive an email through our ticket purchase site asking if they choose to rollover their purchase to NWBF 2021 or receive a refund."

NEW ORLEANS JAZZ FEST 2020 CANCELLED

JAZZ FEST 2020 WILL NOT OCCUR

2021 FESTIVAL SET FOR APRIL 22 – MAY 2

OFFICIAL STATEMENT
4/16/20

With the COVID-19 pandemic continuing to evolve unpredictably—and out of an abundance of caution for the health and safety of our community, including musicians, fans, participants, and staff—Jazz Fest 2020 will not occur this fall, as previously announced.

This conclusion is made after much careful deliberation. It takes something truly momentous to interrupt a 50-year New Orleans tradition as special as the Festival, but we feel strongly that the most prudent course right now is to allow more time for the situation to stabilize. We thank everyone for their patience as we have considered all of the matters necessary to making this difficult decision.

That said, work has already begun on the presentation of next year’s Jazz Fest during its traditional springtime period. So save these dates: The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival presented by Shell will take place April 22 – May 2, 2021. We hope to see you there.

Until then, be safe!

Note to Jazz Fest 2020 Ticketholders
2020 tickets will be valid for next year’s Jazz Fest. Purchasers of 2020 tickets will receive notification no later than April 22 regarding the refund process if they cannot attend in 2021.

Grants available to jazz artists who have lost income due to COVID-19.

Jazz Road Quick Assist Fund

$1,000 grants to jazz artists who have lost significant income due to COVID-19.

Applications are now open, and will close once funds are depleted. Artists are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.

As the world responds to the COVID-19 pandemic, performing artists were among some of the first and hardest hit. In response, Jazz Road Quick Assist Fund grants are available to freelance jazz musicians who have lost work throughout March, April, and May 2020. A limited number of $1,000 grants will be distributed to jazz musicians across the country to offset significant lost gig revenue.

Quick Assist Fund

Applications will be reviewed in the order in which they are received. Highest priority will go to the artists who have faced the most significant, damaging losses due to COVID-19 pandemic response cancellations.
The final grant pool, however, will reflect Jazz Road goals such as diversity and intersectionality in multiple areas including geographic, gender, race/ethnicity, age, disability, etc., as well as reach artists located in more rural, isolated areas. There will also be a priority to support artists who represent the African-American community as well as those who identify as women.
Note: Even if you do not find yourself in one or more of these priorities — or perhaps especially if you do not find yourself in these priorities — please consider either sharing this opportunity with your colleagues who might be a priority or assisting them with an application. The Jazz Road team views this pandemic as an opportunity to offer the most assistance to those who are the most impacted, and we thank you for any help you can offer your colleagues.

Jazz Road, administered by Atlanta-based South Arts, is funded by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation with additional support from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The initiative is conducted in partnership with the five other Regional Arts Organizations (Arts Midwest, Mid-America Arts Alliance, Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, New England Foundation for the Arts, and Western Arts Alliance/WESTAF).
The Jazz Road Quick Assist fund launches with generous gifts totaling $300,000 in funding from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and The Andrew. W. Mellon Foundation.
