SJO’s monthly concert series at Miami Shores Country Club welcomes back popular Latin Jazz band ORIENTE! Led by Cuban band leader, guitarist and songwriter Eddy Balzola, ORIENTE's syncopated rhythms are spicy and colorful while enhancing ORIENTE's creative signature style ~ tropical yet bluesy and soulful, drenched with melody and harmony. ORIENTE debuted in 1993 in New Orleans’ French Quarter at the famed Snug Harbor Jazz Bistro. Those audiences connected deeply with the band’s original Afro-Cuban roots, Jazz and Blues style, and they were invited back to the club and city many times over the years. Although the group has gone through slight stylistic changes over the years as members and instrumentation evolve, Balzola's multi-cultural roots are always prevalent. ORIENTE has played from Key West and the Southwest U.S. to the Caribbean and Europe. Some highlights include appearing at the St. Lucia Jazz Festival, New Orleans and JVC Jazz Fest., and D.O.D. tours. The band has also been featured on the PBS International Travel show “Music Voyager” which is seen worldwide, and on the Food Network “Live with Chef Bobby Flay”. They've been recording their 6th record planned for release this summer, but Balzola says some of the new music may be ready to showcase on the 26th. The concert will include recording and band mates Yoel Del Sol (percussion), Dony Felix (bass), Rey Monroig (drums), plus special guest Jesse Jones, Jr. on sax and flute. There will also be appearances by Yamin Mustafa on trumpet, and newcomer Livan M. sharing vocals, creating opportunities for lots of musical surprises!

Join us for a great evening of jazz, rhythm & soul! Sunday, May 26th, 6pm-9pm at Miami Shores Country Club, 10000 Biscayne Blvd., Miami Shores, FL 33138. Gen Adm $25 | SJO Members $20. Mac Arnold, who has performed and recorded with Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker, and worked with other huge musical giants such as James Brown and Quincy Jones, is back in Gainesville with his band Plate Full O’ Blues. Arnold toured and recorded live albums with Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker in the 1960s, and has played with many other legendary Blues artists. His high school band was often joined by future soul music legend James Brown on piano. Mac was nominated for best Traditional Blues Male Artist at the 2012 Blues Music Awards. Heading one of the finest live Blues bands today, they headlined the Brick City Blues Festival to rave reviews. Jazz Now said Arnold has “one of the most original voices in blues” and All Music Guide called him “one remaining virtual blues goldmine”. Mac was inducted into the Alabama Blues Hall of Fame in 2017.

Sheba the Mississippi Queen & the Bluesman were International Blues Challenge semifinalists. Sheba’s influences are Billy Holiday, Etta James, Tina Turner, Aretha, and Big Mama Thornton, and she has performed at Springing the Blues, the Coral Gables Blues Festival, and the Long Island Blues Festival. The band includes top musicians steeped in the Blues that have played alongside Buddy Guy and Bo Diddley, among other greats.

Tribal Disorder is a musical expression of the universality of being
human. Tribal Disorder calls attention to the disorders in the human
tribe, and the need for all of us - as one human species -  to come
together and live harmoniously. This begins with looking inward and
asking ourselves; How can I be a better citizen of the human tribe?

make it better for everybody." - Dr. Longineu Parsons

The critics and cognoscenti agree: jazz guitarist Nate Najar’s virtuosity
exudes a dynamic and truly intoxicating elegance. His artistry evokes
a modern and progressive attitude that perpetuates the legacy of the
great Charlie Byrd. But while Najar’s imaginative playing is steeped in
Byrd’s tradition it nevertheless emulates a collection of other artistic
musical influences, including classical, bebop, fusion, bossa nova and
even post modern, which have all culminated to inspire a player whose
sophisticated and often innovative artistry has placed him in many of
the world’s most prestigious music venues and produced many superb
recordings.
