The featured artist of the night was Charmaine Ford. Charmaine does it all with a voice that would shake the walls ofJericho . Pop, JAZZ,
reggae, BLUES, soul and funk. She does it all and she does it good. A talented
trio was on stage with her. Orlando
Machado(drums), Scott Klerman(sax/EWI) and seldom seen in these parts, George
Tandy on keys. I wish he were here to listen to more often. My favorite
dance/love couple, Martine & Jacques Brunier were there. Man,
if I could dance like them I would never sit down.
Charmaine and the band had lots of folks up, shaking their you-know-whats and just having fun. I asked Charmaine what her favorite line from a song was. She said it was a tough question and took her time answering. She said songs about love were her favorites and finally settled on "the nearness of you".
If I were thinking of love songs I would probably have chosen the same. I asked Scott what solo would be the one he wished he had played and after a short pause and pensive look replied, "anything by Michael Brecker". He added that Michael had been inspired by Coltrane and then took it all a step further.
I said "Goodnight" to Ms. Lynn, Babette, Mike, Steve and Marty. No Tracy on Sunday nights so the drive home was a bit lonely, but I know she'll be back on Monday. C.U

This old guy had a great night on
Easter Sunday. It started off with a top-down drive up to BJB's. I got there in
time to hear the 2d and 3d sets of Anthony Corrado's Jam. Anthony himself plays
more instruments than I can count on my fingers. To complete his trio he had
Abner Torres (first time drums) and Paul Banman(keys). They had no bassist so
Paul covered with a strong left hand. Someone in the audience suggested an all
JAZZ list for the final set and Anthony complied starting off with
Parker's "Billie's Bounce". A visiting British JAZZ musician, Simon
Aldridge, got up to sing with the band and did a really nice, accent-less,
Satin Doll. Then Anthony called up Jaimy Lynn, JAZZ violinist. Jaimy is here
for a visit but is looking for ways to make it permanent. Miss Lynn
displayed her musical chops, be-bop to swing. Her originality was displayed on
her "Take Five" solo and then again when they featured her
on "Honey Suckle Rose". She hung around for the main show
and we had a chance to talk. Jaimy has a fascinating story to tell.
Performing in Europe as well as the States. A
couple of nights ago she sat-in, playing BLUES with the Bobby Nathan
band at Fishtales. Our conversation took us through music history and then
Jaimy posed an interesting question "What if the Hokey-Pokey is really
what life is all about?" Think about it!!! She also promised to meet
Charlie and I at the Funky Biscuit fete on Thursday night. Maybe by then, I'll
have figured it all out...
