Eden Brent is a piano-pounding, juke-joint-hollering powerhouse of American music. A celebrated performer and Southern songwriter, she spent the first two decades of her career under the mentorship of Abie “Boogaloo” Ames before winning the International Blues Challenge in 2006 and gaining international recognition. Since then, she has earned four Blues Music Awards and numerous career honors. Brent is currently nominated for Traditional Blues Female Artist (Koko Taylor Award) at the 2026 Blues Music Awards, following her Piano Award win in 2025.
Born in the Mississippi River port city of Greenville, Brent comes from a family of riverboat captains and musicians. She studied jazz and received classical training in piano and voice at the University of North Texas, where she earned a degree in music theory. She began playing piano at age three and received her first guitar at age nine. Her musical education included years of formal piano study, culminating in her apprenticeship with Boogaloo Ames.
Attendees will also have an opportunity to hear selections from Brent's upcoming September 2026 release, Things Going South, a collection of ten spirited songs of love and protest recorded at the historic Sam Phillips Recording studio in Memphis. Produced by Bob Dowell and Dawn Hopkins, the album blends traditional blues roots with a contemporary perspective and has been described as one of Brent's most energetic and hard-driving recordings to date.
Beulah Mae is a longtime blues guitarist and vocalist known for her distinctive blend of vintage electric blues and acoustic fingerpicking ragtime blues. Her influences include Reverend Gary Davis, Mississippi John Hurt, Elizabeth Cotten, Magic Sam, Little Walter, Muddy Waters, Bobby Bland, and T-Bone Walker. Throughout her career, she has appeared at festivals and special events, opening for artists including Koko Taylor, Lazy Lester, and Eddie Kirkland. She was also featured in the 2025 North Central Florida Women in Blues Showcase.
Heartwood Soundstage is an independent music venue and recording facility located in downtown Gainesville, Florida. Known for its intimate listening-room atmosphere and professional production capabilities, the venue presents a diverse range of live performances throughout the year, including blues, jazz, roots, folk, Americana, and singer-songwriter concerts.
