June 24, 2026
OKAN brings an Afro-Cuban jazz fusion performance to Faena Theater, combining folk rhythms, contemporary composition, and global musical influences in an intimate concert setting.
Taking its name from the word for “heart” or “soul” in Lukumí, OKAN is an Afro-Cuban duo that explores themes of immigration, identity, and cultural heritage through a distinctive blend of jazz, folk, classical, and world music traditions. The ensemble is led by Cuban-born musicians Elizabeth Rodriguez, a classically trained violinist, and Magdelys Savigne, a percussionist from Santiago de Cuba. The pair formed OKAN in 2017 after performing together in Jane Bunnett’s acclaimed all-female Cuban jazz ensemble, Maqueque.
Since its formation, OKAN has released three albums, earned two Juno Awards, appeared on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series, and toured extensively throughout North America. In 2024, Rodriguez and Savigne relocated to South Florida after several years based in Toronto, further strengthening their connection to the region’s vibrant music community.
OKAN's performance will take place on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 and will serve as the season finale and closing performance of Faena LIVE's eighth annual Jazz Series, a six-concert program curated by Grammy-nominated producer Rachel Faro. The Juno Award-winning ensemble is recognized internationally for blending Afro-Cuban traditions, jazz improvisation, and contemporary global influences in dynamic live performances. Their work has received widespread acclaim, including multiple Juno Awards for World Music Album of the Year.
The concert takes place inside the 150-seat Faena Theater in Miami Beach, a venue inspired by European opera houses and classic Hollywood design that emphasizes attentive listening and musical detail. The Jazz Series runs from February through June and presents a variety of international artists whose work spans the traditions of both classic and contemporary jazz. As the final performance of the 2026 series, OKAN brings the season to a close with its distinctive blend of Afro-Cuban roots, jazz, and global influences.
