Come join us in person for an unforgettable afternoon celebrating the roots of Gospel music. Caleb Around Town presents a program that explores the birth and enduring legacy of Gospel music in America. From its early foundations in spirituals and church traditions to its role in shaping modern music, Gospel has influenced jazz, blues, soul, R&B, and rock through the decades, serving as both a musical and cultural cornerstone.
Experience this history live as the program highlights not only Gospel’s origins but also its lasting impact on generations of artists and audiences. Many of the phrasing, vocal techniques, and emotional depth heard across American music can be traced directly to Gospel traditions rooted in faith, resilience, and community.
This performance features South Florida gospel artists including Grammy-nominated Johnny Sanders, Faith on Full Ensemble, vocalist Francine Ealey Murphy, and narrator Christal H. Walker-Collins. The program honors Thomas A. Dorsey, recognized as the Father of Gospel music, whose work helped define the genre and expand its reach beyond the church.
This event provides an opportunity to experience a musical tradition that continues to influence the sound of American music today.
Bethel Apostolic Temple has long served as a cornerstone of faith and community in Miami, with roots dating to the mid-20th century as part of the Apostolic Pentecostal tradition. As the surrounding neighborhood developed, the church established itself through strong pastoral leadership, community outreach, and consistent worship programming. Gospel music remains central to its identity, reflecting both spiritual expression and cultural heritage, while supporting generations of congregants through ministry and music.
