Miles-Trane Centennial Tribute
Join Tampa Bay jazz favorites trumpeter James Suggs and tenor saxophonist Jeremy Carter as they pay tribute to two of the jazz world's most significant artists, Miles Davis and John Coltrane. Both born in 1926 and frequent collaborators, this concert celebrates these highly influential musicians. Both Suggs and Carter have presented tribute shows devoted to these artists and will combine forces for this concert at the Mainstage Theatre at Hillsborough College's Ybor City campus.
Trumpeter James Suggs brings an extensive performing and teaching background to the program. A graduate of Youngstown State University, he later earned his Master of Music in Jazz Performance from the University of South Florida, where he has served on the jazz faculty since 2018. Suggs spent eight years living, teaching and performing in Buenos Aires and has performed internationally in cities including London, Barcelona, Lisbon, Mexico City and Caracas. His career has also included touring with the Glenn Miller Orchestra and Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. His debut recording, You're Gonna Hear From Me, was recorded at the historic Van Gelder Studio.
Tenor saxophonist Jeremy Carter is a Nebraska native who was raised in the Tampa Bay area and works as a bandleader, composer and arranger on Florida's jazz scene. His music draws from jazz, funk and soul, with appearances ranging from club performances to concert and festival stages. Carter has been featured through WUSF's Jazz on Arts Axis Florida and has performed at venues and presenting organizations throughout the Tampa Bay region, including the Palladium and New Tampa Performing Arts Center.
For the Miles-Trane Centennial Tribute, Suggs and Carter will be joined by pianist John O'Leary, bassist Alejandro Arenas and drummer Jean Bolduc. The concert opens Tampa Jazz Club's 2026–2027 Sunday afternoon season in Ybor City.
