Saxophonist Jeff Rupert has built a distinguished career as a performer, recording artist, composer, producer and jazz educator. He is a Pegasus Professor and Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Central Florida, where he also founded Flying Horse Records.

Rupert’s performing and recording credits span an extensive list of major jazz artists. He has appeared with Sam Rivers, Maynard Ferguson, Mel Tormé, Diane Schuur, Benny Carter, Kevin Mahogany and Ernestine Anderson, among many others, and has performed at venues including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, Birdland and the Blue Note. He was a featured performer on Benny Carter’s Grammy Award-winning album Harlem Renaissance and toured extensively with both Sam Rivers and Maynard Ferguson.

As a bandleader, Rupert has released numerous recordings that have reached the national jazz charts. His projects have included recordings with George Garzone, Veronica Swift, Richard Drexler and other leading jazz musicians, while his work with The Jazz Professors has produced multiple JazzWeek-charting albums.

For this New Spirit Café performance, Rupert brings the music back to one of jazz’s most enduring settings: the classic quartet of saxophone, piano, upright acoustic bass and drums. It is the sound and feel of an intimate jazz club, presented in the Joan Harris Black Box Theater for an audience limited to only 100.

Table seating is $35, and theater seating is $30.

Live music presentations at ACA are an artistic partnership between Atlantic Center for the Arts and Positively Florida, both 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations dedicated to supporting a wide range of artistic expression.

New Spirit Café
“A Time and Place to Relax, Listen, and Let Life be Sweet!”

Inspired by jazz clubs in Chicago and Florida, New Spirit Café was designed as a “listening house,” where the focus remains on the music. The series presents a range of professional musicians in an intimate setting. Seating at small tables creates a relaxed, club-style atmosphere. While not a restaurant, the venue offers a beverage bar with light snacks.
