DUKE ELLINGTON AND HIS ORCHESTRA
Using lots of archival material, rare videos and recordings, we'll take a look at where Ellington's unique style came from, and how he influenced big band jazz that followed.  This will give you an idea of how my upcoming classes on "Legacies of the Great Jazz Pianists, Bassists and Drummers", and "Legacies of the Great Jazz Trumpeters, Trombonists, Saxophonists and Clarinetists" will be structured.

Call or e-mail Plymouth Harbor to RSVP at (941)361-7252  or e-mail maryannes@pharbor.org

*NOTICE OF UPCOMING CLASSES*
Pierian Spring classes on great solo performers of jazz will take place on Wednesdays from 2:30-
4:30 starting January 9, and will feature some very, very special guests who will demonstrate how their instrument is used in jazz.   Space is limited for these, so sign up now at www.pierianspringacademy.org  The classes will meet at Argosy University, 17th & Honore in Sarasota.  A "very special guests" will be piano legend Dick Hyman!

My Longboat Education Center class this season will also be VERY special.  We'll talk about "Paradigm Shifters", and each meeting will go into great depth on ONE major jazz artist or band that completely altered the path of jazz.  This is an entirely new class, and it was agonizing to settle on just FOUR artists!  Two will be very popular figures, Louis Armstrong and Charlie Parker, but the other two are the "wild cards": bandleaders Paul Whiteman and Fletcher Henderson. This class will meet on four Thursday afternoons from 3-4:30 at the Education Center, 5370 Gulf of Mexico Dr., Longboat Key FL 34228.  WWw.lbkeducationcenter.org
