The Clifton Heights Jazz Project is a conglomerate of eight highly talented musicians from across the country. Led by guitarist Zach Larmer, these young jazz virtuosos have joined together to bring you fresh material, from original compositions to standard jazz repertoire turned upside down. Drawing from the classic American songbook, bluegrass, funk, classical, and modern jazz, the Clifton Heights Jazz Project has a little something for everyone.

Glenn Basham - Violin and Harmonica

A true chameleon of the music scene, Glenn has made a name for himself in both the classical and jazz world. Glenn is currently professor of Violin at the University of Miami and Concertmaster of the Naples Philharmonic. He is also first violinist of the Bergonzi String Quartet and maintains a busy international performance schedule in addition to his teaching. He has appeared on countless records and shared the stage with artists such as Ira Sullivan, George Benson, Monica Mancini, and Shelly Berg.

James Schlender - Violin

A young sensation of modern bluegrass fiddle and jazz violin, James began playing at the age of 9 in Bozeman, Montana. By the age of 13 he held three national fiddle championship titles and has placed in the top 10 finalists of the prestigious Grandmasters Fiddle Contest on multiple occasions. James has toured internationally and shared the stage with artists such as Kenny Loggins, Take 6, Grace Kelly, Jeni Flemming, and Mark O'Connor.

Neil Carson - Alto Saxophone

Hailing from Chicago, one of the great music capitals of the US, Neil is an accomplished composer and saxophonist. He began playing professionally at 14 when he was awarded Outstanding Soloist at the Northshore Jazz Fest. Since then he has performed extensively and is currently the lead alto saxophonist in the prestigious University of Miami Concert Jazz Band. He has shared the stage with artists such as Chris Potter, Dave Holland, Benny Golson, and Dave Douglas.

Alex Weitz - Tenor Saxophone

A graduate of the award winning Tucson Jazz Institute, Alex is a monster of jazz saxophone. He was recognized in Downbeat magazine as best Fusion Soloist in 2011 and has played with many groups as well as leading his own. He was recently invited to attend the exclusive Banff workshop where he worked with many of the top names in modern jazz. Alex has shared the stage with Brian Lynch, Benny Golson, Dave Douglas, and Terence Blanchard.

Ariel Pocock - Piano and Voice

At the age of 19, Ariel has already garnered much recognition for her work as a pianist as well as a vocalist. She has won Downbeat awards in both categories (piano and voice) as well as winning the Outstanding Piano Soloist award at the 2009 Essentially Ellington Jazz Festival and the 2008 Lionel Hampton International Festival, and opening for Sheryl Crow at the Seattle Opera House. Ariel is currently recording her debut album with jazz legends Larry Grenadier, Eric Harland, and Julian Lage.

Zach Larmer - Guitar

Beginning his musical career in Philadelphia, Zach is a Downbeat award-winning guitarist as well as an accomplished arranger. He was awarded the Duncan Nelson Scholarship at the University of Miami and has toured extensively, both nationally and internationally. Zach has appeared on many albums and television programs and has shared the stage with artists such as Albert and Jimmy Heath, Mark O'Connor, Bruce Saunders, Rees Bridges, and Bryan Lynch.

Jeff Kipperman - Bass

Hailing from New York, Jeff is a doctoral student in jazz bass and teaching assistant at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. Jeff's career as a bass player spans multiple genres of music, including classical music, jazz, Afro-pop, bluegrass, and other world musics. He has performed with the New World Symphony, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Caramoor Virtuosi Orchestra, Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Project, and a multitude of jazz ensembles. Currently, Jeff is a member of the Henry Mancini Orchestra and Terence Blanchard's ensemble.

Ben Falle - Drums

One of Australia's top drummers, Ben began at age 10. By 19 he had completed a bachelor's in jazz performance and by age 21 was named "Australia's Best Up & Coming Drummer". He has worked as faculty at the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts as a           lecturer and was recently awarded 2nd place in the prestigious National Jazz Awards. He routinely performs at Australia's premiere jazz club, The Ellington, and is endorsed by Yamaha, Zildjian, Remo, and Vater. Ben has performed with Joe Chindamo, Jamie Oehlers, James Morrison, and many more.
