TIGERTAIL presents
"OLIVER’S CINEMA"
EUROPEAN “CHAMBER JAZZ” TRIO HEADED BY RENOWNED DUTCH TRUMPETER ERIC VLOEIMANS
EUROPEAN “CHAMBER JAZZ” TRIO HEADED BY RENOWNED DUTCH TRUMPETER ERIC VLOEIMANS
Tigertail will present a concert featuring the jazz trio Oliver’s Cinema featuring Dutch trumpeter Eric Vloeimans, on Saturday, October 25, 2014, at 9:00pm. The event will be presented in the intimate Miami-Dade County Auditorium On.Stage Black Box, set up cabaret-style with tables as well as standard concert seating. Tickets are $25 for general admission, $50 for VIP table seating and $20 for students, seniors and artists. Tickets are available by calling Tigertail at (305)324-4337 during normal business hours or online at www.tigertail.org. The event will be preceded by an hour of food, drink and fun. Audience members may arrive at 8pm for each event, and the concerts begin at 9pm.
Each time Tigertail has brought improvising Dutch trumpeter Eric Vloeimans to Miami, he has come in a different musical setting: with his group Fugimundi in 2008, with pianist Florian Weber in 2012, and now with his latest project, Oliver’s Cinema (an anagram of his name). This eclectic international trio is composed of Vloeimans on trumpet, Belgian Tuur Florizoone on accordion and German Jörg Brinkmann on cello. The group will appear in Miami as part of a fourteen-city U.S. tour, on the heels of an appearance at New York City’s famed Blue Note.
Their repertoire is original as well as established. The trio is versatile, mobile, colorful and charming – veering among jazz, classical, pop and film music.
Eric Vloeimans' work is characterized by melodic and lyrical power and a distinctive, individual sound – velvety or even whispering in the more subdued pieces. He is considered to be one of the finest and most versatile trumpet players in Europe. Early on in New York, he worked with Donald Byrd and gained experience playing in the big bands of Frank Foster and Mercer Ellington. He then played around the world with many top jazz musicians, including Mercer Ellington, Charlie Mariano, Joey Baron, and Han Bennink. Accordionist Tuur Florizoone explores the instrument's full expressive range. He is equally at home in the pop, jazz, folk and world music. With his charisma and tangible joy in performing, and his gift for getting to the heart of the music, he explores the instrument's full expressive range. Classically trained cellist Jörg Brinkmann adds a third magical timbre to this trio. Brinkmann is equally capable of making essential contributions to pop bands, theatre orchestras or chamber music ensembles. In his playing and his compositions, a perfect fusion takes place of structure and personal variations, of cleanly bowed lyricism and lively rhythms. It's an ideal combination.
