Festival Miami's line-up of concerts this week is truly amazing! Our unique festival programming provides the ideal way for you to explore new musical avenues and incredible performers that don't often make their way to Miami. We highly recommend you reserve tickets in advance while good seats are still available.

This week, experience classical guitar masterworks including Rodrigo's timeless and beautiful Concerto de Aranjuez for guitar and orchestra. In the jazz realm, enjoy Patti Austin's beautiful renditions of Ella Fitzgerald classics with our swinging Frost Studio Jazz Band. Be amazed at the enormous student talent on display at our annual Songwriters Showcase, followed by Jorma Kaukonen's legendary guitar work on Friday night.  On Saturday, Metropolitan Opera star soprano Dawn Upshaw and celebrated composer-conductor Maria Schneider perform the Florida premiere of their triple Grammy Award winning project Winter Morning Walks with the Frost School's Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra; followed on Sunday by cellist Dave Eggar, vocalist Kate Davis and fellow National YoungArts Foundation alumni in "Moments" a highly creative collaborative showcase featuring fabulous music and dance.

Hear live in glorious color the beautiful renditions of Ella's favorites that earned Patti Austin a Grammy nomination for Best Jazz Vocal Album for her album For Ella, with big band arrangements by the legendary Patrick Williams performed by the Frost Studio Jazz Band. A Grammy Award winner with nine total nominations, Patti performs classics such as "Too Close for Comfort," "Honeysuckle Rose," "Our Love is Here to Stay," "A-Tisket, A-Tasket," "Miss Otis Regrets," "Satin Doll," "The Man I Love" and "How High the Moon." Songwriter's Showcase

One of the most popular events at Festival Miami, the annual Songwriters Showcase features songs composed and performed by singer-songwriters enrolled in the Bruce Hornsby Creative American Music program. Top songwriters and music industry professionals serve as judges, and the audience is polled for its favorite choices. The winning act will open our Friday night concert!  

Presented in collaboration with the Frost School of Music's student-run Cat 5 Music Publishing, 'Cane Records and Arts Presenting and Live Entertainment Management program.

In a career that has already spanned a half-century, Jorma Kaukonen has been the leading practitioner and teacher of fingerstyle guitar, one of the most highly respected interpreters of American roots music, blues and Americana, and at the forefront of popular rock-and-roll. A Grammy nominee and member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, he is a founding member of two legendary bands, Jefferson Airplane and the still-touring Hot Tuna. Jorma Kaukonen's repertoire goes far beyond psychedelic rock; he is a music legend and one of the finest singer-songwriters in music!

Metropolitan Opera star sopranoDawn Upshaw and celebrated composer-conductor Maria Schneider perform the Florida premiere of their three-time Grammy Award winning project Winter Morning Walks with the Frost School's Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra. NPR describes it as "lyrical, flowing, intimately expressive... music to fall in love with the first time." Dawn Upshaw was deemed "one of the most consequential performers of our time" by the Los Angeles Timesand has performed at the Met over 300 times. Maria Schneider's compositions are hailed as "evocative, majestic, magical." In this amazing nine-part song cycle, Schneider melds her compositional mastery to the poetry of Ted Kooser, Poet Laureate of the United States from 2004 to 2006. The second half of the program features Schneider's music set to English translations of Carlos Drummond de Andrade poetry by Mark Strand. Auditioned Frost Opera Theater singers, coached by Dawn Upshaw, will also participate.

This one-of-a-kind concert features Grammy nominated cellist Dave Eggar in a melding of music and movement performed by YoungArts alumni who are making big waves in the art world Eggar performs as a classical soloist worldwide and performs with top artists in virtually every musical genre He is the recipient of the Sony Records Elevated Standards prize for accomplishments in the field of classical music, and was decorated by Time magazine, ASCAP, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
