Second place went to Nicolas Hetko of the University of Miami. Jarrett R. Cherner of New York finished third. Other competitors were Emmett Cohen and Richard Sears.
Judges were Lynne Arriale, Doug Carn and Bob Bednar. The players were accompanied by Danny Gottlieb on drums and Dennis Marks on bass. Noel Freidline served as Master of Ceremonies.
