A line in a song says "Tuesday
is just as bad". Not this Tuesday. Trio da Paz was at Guzman Hall at the Frost
School. I first heard them on a CD I bought (really) back in the 90's. The trio
was joined by Herbie Mann on flutes and his son in the chorus. The album "Black
Orpheus" remains one of my top ten as does the original film. Roberto
Lubumbo(guitar) Nilson Matta(bass) and Duduka da Fonseca(drums) have been
together as a band since 1990. The performance----dynamic? hypnotic? sensitive?
sensual?---all four would be correct terms but it would have to be one word to
truly convey how their music could be properly described. They are all
accomplished songwriters and did their own compositions as well as some
Brazilian standards. Shelley Berg introduced them and also gave an award to
American Airlines for being an outstanding sponsor of Festival Miami. Trio da
Paz is now based in NY and I asked them to keep me posted as to their future
bookings. I will let you guys know. If you have the chance to hear them, do not,
I say DO NOT, pass it up. Tappin' Clappin and missin' Flo
