**Re: Big City Rhythm & Blues Orchestra, Memphis Smoke, Royal Oak, MI, Thurs. Feb.12, 2009.
The juke joint was packed and the Blues was nonstop at Memphis’ Ground Zero—a reprieve from the rollicking rambunctious Beale St. only a block away on Saturday, Feb. 7th, 2009 for Big City Rhythm & Blues Magazine’s first Memphis Showcase. Thanks to the Big City Rhythm & Blues Orchestra featuring maestro Dave Fields with Billy Gibson, David Hughes, Andy Huenerberg, Dave Moore plus special guest Deak Harp kept the Big City Rhythm & Blues Magazine Showcase on track all evening with many other musicians and their bands plus surprised guests jumping on stage where the music never stopped including Chris James, Patrick Rynn, Julia Magness, Trampled Under Foot with Washboard Jo & Mark Montgomery, Dexter Allen, Keith Ruff & Diedra, Luther “Badman” Keith & Jeff Maylin, Toronzo Cannon & Russ Green with Shemekia Copeland, Ready Teddy & Charles Otis, Joey Gilmore and Preston Shannon plus emcee extraordinaire: Scrapiron.
Kicking off the late night jam was the Red Hot Blues Sisters. Other musicians who stopped by but there was not enough time for them to perform included Steady Rollin’ Bob Margolin, Zac Harmon, Scott Holt and Robin Roberts. What an exciting incredible all star evening and standing room only when Ground Zero owner and Academy award winning actor Morgan Freeman stopped by to see his club overflowing onto the sidewalk and the busiest it has been since its opening night. Freeman was all smiles and enjoyed two sets in the VIP section. Looks like Big City Rhythm & Blues Magazine has another new home on the road—Ground Zero! Big thanks to Morgan Freeman, Bill Luckett, Howard Stovall & Roger Stolle.
