Jazz at The Palladium with Nate Najar,
Stacey Kent and Jim Tomlinson
It’s
a jazz trio
like no other! Guitarist Nate Najar, vocalist Stacey Kent and saxophonist
Jim Tomlinson come together for one very special night, Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. at the Palladium Theater, 253 5th Ave N, St Petersburg, FL 33701. It’s part of the “Mahaffey On The Move” series.
Nate
Najar is one of the few contemporary musicians playing jazz on the classical
guitar. In 2008, he was selected to represent Charlie Byrd in a 10-day
festival at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., celebrating the
history of jazz. His Candid Records release Blues For Night People - The
Nate Najar Trio Remembers Charlie Byrd introduced him to the
international stage, including performances at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club
and the 2013 London Jazz Festival.
A
masterful interpreter of Brazilian samba and bossa nova music, Grammy-nominated
Stacey Kent is able to transcend genre and national boundaries with an
ease that few other artists can. Her Breakfast on the Morning
Tram (2007) received platinum album certification in France. “As she threw
back her head and crooned softly,” raved the New York Times in a
concert review, “you had the sense of a woman with nothing to protect,
living in the moment and dreaming out loud.” Kent’s latest,
acclaimed release is The Changing Lights.
Tenor
saxophonist Jim Tomlinson has been called the Stan Getz to Stacey Kent’s Astrud
Gilberto. As well as arranging and producing his wife’s recordings, the
gifted composer has made three albums as a duet with her; The
Lyric was named Album of the Year at the BBC Jazz Awards in 2006
