Miami Jazz Co-op Rent Party Mondays in August - Hal Roland Trio, Maria Rivas, Tom McCormick, Lisanne Lyons, James McCoy!

Once again, the MJC is featuring a great pianist playing our new grand piano. Hal Roland, a Florida native, has been a keyboardist, vocalist, producer, writer, teacher, and radio personality for 30 years. He graduated from the University of Miami in 1984, with a Bachelor Degree in studio music and jazz. Throughout his career, Hal has had the privilege of performing and recording with many of the biggest names in contemporary music, including Liza Minnelli, Jon Secada, Quincy Jones, The Bee Gees, and Michael Jackson. He has performed with his own jazz trio across Europe. On Monday, Hal will be performing with MJC Founders, Matt Bonelli and Steve Rucker. UPCOMING RENT PARTIES   8/10 MARIA RIVAS 8/17 TOM McCORMICK Saxophonist/flutist Tom McCormick has been a fixture on the South Florida jazz scene for over twenty-five years.  Originally from Baltimore, Maryland, Tom studied at the acclaimed Frost School of Music at the University of Miami and later taught there.  He is currently the saxophone professor at Miami Dade College Kendall Campus.  Tom has performed with some of the biggest names in the jazz including: Arturo Sandoval, Mongo Santamaria, Patti Austin, and Lou Rawls.  For many years he was the principal saxophonist with the Miami Symphony.  Music has taken Tom around the world.  He has performed throughout Europe, Latin America, the Caribbean, Japan and India.  Besides being a multiinstrumentalist, Tom is also an accomplished composer and arranger. 8/24 LISANNE LYONS 8/31 JAMES McCOY     The Piano Fund... We have our piano!  Thanks to generous friends of the MJC, there is now a wonderful grand piano for the exclusive use of the great pianists who play at MJC Rent Parties at the Open Stage Club.  Everyone who attends a Rent Party will be asked to donate $1 to the piano fund to assure that the piano is always perfectly-tuned. Tell them to join the MJC mailing list at www.miamijazz.org   The MJC's home for its famous Rent Parties, is worthy of our musicians and our audience, EVERY MONDAY NIGHT at 8 PM.  Admission is $10.  MJC Members and students with ID are admitted free.                WHERE?                   Open Stage Club                2325 Galiano Street                Coral Gables, FL 33134 Open Stage Club is one block north of Miracle Mile and one block west of Douglas Road (37 Avenue).  Open Stage Club is located on the street level of a municipal parking garage with plenty of convenient parking (garage entrance around the corner on Aragon Avenue).  There is metered parking available on the street.  Our advice is to park in the garage so you don't have to worry about the meter.
