Chamber of Commerce invites you to Fly-in or Drive-in to the 4th Annual Pigz
in Z’Hills BBQ & Blues Fest and
the Zephyrhills Municipal Airport Aviation Expo Saturday, January18, 2014 from
10am-6pm. Always a smart deal, the expanded partnership with the Zephyrhills
airport means BBQ & Blues offers a value-packed day of fun for aviation and
history enthusiasts as well as BBQ & Blues fans.
Event-goers will enjoy
mouth-watering bar-b-que, Adult Beverages & Hot Cocoa at the “Swine
Terrace”, Live Blues music!, a kids fun zone by the YMCA (Bounce Houses, Field
Games, Arts & Crafts), a classic car and motorcycle “Show & Shine”
powered by True Oldies 106.3, cool aircraft displays, Zephyrhills Museum of
Military History, and business and aviation expo.
Blues fans are especially in
for a treat as BBQ & Blues 2014 welcomes the winner of the 2013
International Blues Challenge Selwyn Birchwood. The Blues begin at 11:00am with
returning local favorite Cold Iron,
followed by the sensational guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Ellie Lee & Blues Fury at 12:30pm. The Charlie Morris Band will play at 2:00pm and Selwyn Birchwood Band at 3:30.
WWII Museum of Military
History located on site will be open during the event and, as part of the
Aviation Expo, the Airport will set up cool planes and aviation-related
displays.
Professional BBQ Chefs will
compete for prizes from an $8000 purse for the plates of pork, chicken, ribs
and brisket. In addition, there will be a separate competition for Backyard
chefs for trophies, ribbons and bragging rights and new this year a small purse
for Grand and Reserve Champions in the backyard division.
Florida BBQ Association
sanctioned the Pigz in Z’Hills BBQ competition in 2011 and the event went on to
become a “State Championship Contest” in 2012. It is a prestigious
classification among barbecue competitors and means that the grand champion of
the professional division will receive an invitation to the American Royal
National Championships in Kansas City , MO and entered in the draw for the Jack Daniels World
Championships in Lynchburg ,
Tenn.
“It is our goal to bring something special and
unique to Zephyrhills. We like to show off all that is great about Zephyrhills,
and have a good time doing it.” said Vonnie Mikkelsen, Chamber executive
director. “BBQ & Blues is the only event of its kind in Pasco County
Since its inception BBQ &
Blues has raised thousands of dollars for local youth and education programs,
and community services of the Chamber of Commerce. Organizations that offer a
pre-determined number volunteer hours at the event will be considered for a
donation to their cause.
Professional and Backyard
Teams, Concession and Light Retail Vendors, Business and Civic Groups are
