For those of you who may be unfamiliar with the Dr., he playsHammond
B3 organ, which to say the least, is a bitch to schlep around. It is an amazing
instrument that can do mystical and magical things. This night it told the
truth. With out pulling any of the plungers or tricks with the bass pedals, Dr.
Smith stayed true to the instrument, the music and himself. It was pure. It was
awe inspiring simplicity in a complex way. To end the first set they played
"BeeHive". This tune employs the newly rebirthed dissonant sounds of
strange chords. The audience was spellbound.
The second set ran the gamut from ballads to Monk. Through it all the thing that stood out for me was Lonnie telling the TRUTH through that amazing instrument. Congratulations on an outstanding performance----Come back soon----Congrats to Art's Garage, as well, for their grant from the Knight Foundation.

Saturday night I had the pleasure of being at a Dr. Lonnie Smith
performance. Dr. Lonnie was accompanied by the fabulous guitarist, Jonathan Kreisberg
and the sensitive drumming of Ms. Allison Miller.
