Big City Rhythm & Blues Magazine presents “A Big City Rhythm & Blues Showcase” Saturday, February 7th, 2009 at Ground Zero Blues Club, 158 Lt. George W. Lee, Memphis, TN featuring Beale St. guitar legend Preston Shannon and Friends – Joey Gilmore (Florida), Ready Teddy & Charles Otis (New Orleans), Luther “Badman” Keith & Jeff Maylin (Detroit), Linsey Alexander & The Chicago B.L.U.E.S. All-Stars (Chicago), Dexter Allen (Mississippi), Vee Allen (Mississippi & Michigan) , Keith Ruff & Diedra (Alabama), Chris James & Patrick Rynn (Chicago & San Diego) and Toronzo Cannon & Big Ray (Chicago).
Plus kicking off the showcase at 6 pm until 2 am will be The Big City Rhythm & Blues Orchestra led by Dave Fields (New York City) with Billy Gibson (Memphis), David Hughes (Mississippi), Andy Huenerberg, Dave Moore and special guest Deak Harp (Illinois) will perform. With Many Special Guests

“A Big City Rhythm & Blues Showcase” is celebrating Big City Rhythm & Blues Magazine’s Cross Roads CD Sampler #5 that is free when you subscribe and on February 7, 2009 free for the first 100 Ground Zero-Memphis patrons. Publisher of Big City Rhythm & Blues Magazine—Robert Jr. Whitall photographed the “Mississippi Crossroads—61/49” in 1989 and writes about its folklore in the new sampler. Cross Roads features 19 talented artists. It is a wonderful crossroads of rhythm and blues.

WOMEN IN JAZZ ENSEMBLE performs

African American Research Library and Cultural Center
2650 Sistrunk Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33311
Professional, world-renown vocalists Jus' Cynthia, Sandra Kaye and Diva Joan Cartwright work with a jazz quartet to rehearse their road show, WOMEN IN JAZZ ON TOUR. Students from Broward Schools are invited to fill the 300-seat auditorium at AARLCC, during two, one-hour rehearsal/workshops, where the 7-member ensemble will run through dialogue and music exploring the lives of 11 women who brought jazz and blues music to the forefront of American popular culture and around the world. The women they portray include Bessie Smith, Marylou Williams, Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday.
Women in Jazz South Florida, Inc. is a non-profit organization that promotes women musicians, globally, through contacts, articles, interviews, newsletters, events, courses, clinics, workshops, lectures, research, history, archives, websites, film, audio and video recording, concerts, performances and recognition.
