Roditi came to Boston in 1970 from his native Brazil via Mexico . He studied at the Berklee College of Music and became musically influenced by Clifford Brown and Lee Morgan. Roditi later joined the faculty of the School of Contemporary Music , meanwhile doing club and concert performances. In 1976 he moved to New York , and quickly broke into the local circuit, performing and recording with Joe Henderson, Charlie Rouse, Herbie Mann, Tito Puente, McCoy Tyner, Horace Silver and Paquito D'Rivera. Roditi established himself as a formidable jazz figure. Since 1989, he has traveled frequently as a member of Dizzy Gillespie's United Nations Orchestra. For a while, he also toured with The Jazz Masters, a Gillespie tribute group led by Slide Hampton. Roditi has recorded 16 critically acclaimed albums as a leader since 1984, and Brazilliance X 4 was nominated for a Grammy Award as best Latin jazz album in 2010.
