International Jazz Day, designated by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as April 30 each year, will have its official kick-off at UNESCO headquarters in Paris on April 27, 2012. The UNESCO celebration, organized in cooperation with UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador and Institute Chairman Herbie Hancock, will set the stage for a series of events to take place around the globe on April 30. The day will bring together performers, educators, governments, cultural organizations, schools, libraries and fans, as they explore together the history, meaning, impact and legacy of jazz music throughout the world. For further information, please visit the UNESCO website.
On the morning of April 30, the Institute will present a sunrise concert in New Orleans' Congo Square, the birthplace of jazz. The day will culminate with a sunset concert at the United Nations headquarters in New York City. Further details are forthcoming.

I'm flattered to see that once again, jazz borrows it's best ideas from the blues. I personally started this group for an International Blues Music Day last August. Don't get me wrong. Let's do both, I'm just sayin though. http://www.facebook.com/groups/Internationalbluesmusicday/
