2009 Florida EARTH DAY JAM
Music Festival & Environmental Exhibition
The Florida EARTH DAY JAM is a music festival and environmental exhibition celebrating the importance of the Earth Day observance in today’s world. The festival will be held on Saturday, April 18th at the Bradfordville Blues Club, 7152 Moses Lane in Tallahassee, Florida, and will feature twelve (12) hot regional and local acts on four stages, indoors and outdoors, throughout the day. An educational exhibition will also be on-site, including dozens of not-for-profit organizations, green businesses and local government programs promoting conservation, sustainability and “green” living. The exhibition will also include artists, craftsmen and fair trade distributors as well as food and drink vendors.
PERFORMERS: The Jim Crozier Band, Trial By Stone, Pepper Drive, The Sarah Mac Band, Bedhead, Betty, The Deborah LawsonvGroup, Bogazedi, The Soular System, Big Daddy & Red Hot Java, Papa Mali, Sarasota Slim, Rebecca Jean Smith
ADMISSION: Admission at the gate will be $20.00 per person. Advance tickets are $15.00 and will be available online at http://www.earthdayjam.org/ through Friday, April 17th. The festival gate opens at noon. Admission is free for children 12 and under.
STAGES: The four Earth Day Jam festival stages are named for the classical elements: Earth, Air, Fire and Water. Bring your camp chair or blanket and enjoy music on three outdoor stages, or slip into the blues roadhouse for a rousing indoor set.
The EARTH STAGE will be positioned in an open, gently sloping field on the Blues Club grounds, creating a grassy natural outdoor amphitheater. This will be the “sunny” stage, so bring sunscreen! Performers on The Earth Stage will include The Jim Crozier Band, The Sarah Mac Band, The Soular System and Papa Mali. The Earth Stage is sponsored by The City of Tallahassee.
The AIR STAGE will be positioned in another naturally sloping area under the ancient live oak trees that tower over the grounds. This “shady stage” will feature performances by Trial By Stone, The Deborah Lawson Group, and Big Daddy & Red Hot Java.
The Air Stage is sponsored by Leon County “Growing Green”, and J.B. Ritter Sound & Stagecraft. The WATER STAGE will be the famous “corner stage” inside The Bradfordville Blues Club, “the badest little blues roadhouse south of Chicago and east of New Orleans”. Performing from The Water Stage will be Pepper Drive, Bedhead Betty, Bogazedi, and Sarasota Slim with Nitro (under a separate cover).
The Water Stage is sponsored by The Bradfordville Blues Club.
The FIRE STAGE is a pre-existing, permanent stage located on the grounds of the Bradfordville Blues Club beside their popular bonfire pit. The informal, “organic” nature of this stage promises to be one of the more intriguing aspects of the show, as several musicians from the day’s festivities (and other surprise guests) perform in an environment of spontaneous creativity and improvisation. As the fire burns into the night, settle in for a sweet acoustic show by Rebecca Jean Smith, the Traveling High Priestess of Americana Voodoo, as she hosts this late night, all-star acoustic jam.
The Fire Stage is sponsored by The Magnolia School of Tallahassee and J.B Ritter Sound and Stagecraft.EXHIBITION: Dozens of environmental organizations and green business partners will participate in the educational exposition running all day during the show. Come ready to learn about “green living” techniques, public sustainability practices, preservation of our vanishing natural resources, fair trade goods, eco-tourism adventures and outfitting, and the many eco-friendly products and services now available in the consumer market. Take a spin of the roulette wheel to win a useful “green” prize, try an acupuncture treatment, peruse the arts and crafts booths, or sample some of the delicious food that will be available.
BUILDING A SUSTAINABLE FESTIVAL: To eliminate the need for plastic bottles which clog our landfills and cause problems down the waste stream, ice cold water will be served FOR FREE at the Earth Day Jam. Buy your biodegradable cup for just one dollar and reuse it throughout the festival. Soft drinks will also be served in these eco-friendly cups. Your first soda costs just $2.00, and refills will be just one dollar for the rest of the show – as long as you hang on to your cup!
Marpan Recycling and Leon County Recycling will provide appropriately marked trash and recycling receptacles throughout the festival area. Let’s pull together to make our festival “clean and green” by discarding trash and recycling materials in the separate bins provided.
COMFORT AND SAFETY: For your comfort and enjoyment of the festival, it is strongly recommend that you bring a portable camping chair or picnic blanket. No seating is provided at any of the outdoor stages.Smoking will be permitted on the festival grounds. Please be courteous to other guests, dispose of cigarette buts in the trash receptacles provided, and please... keep lit smokes away from children, even outdoors. Help us make this Earth Day celebration a success by leaving coolers and pets at home. No pets or personal coolers will be allowed into the festival grounds. Fireworks and illegal substances will be strictly prohibited. The organizers want EVERYONE to be safe and have a good time, so be advised that these public safety rules will be actively enforced.

I wish I could be there for the music. Sounds like a great earth day.
ReplyDeleteI also wanted to say thanks thinking about our environment. We all need to do something to help our earth get healthier. Plastic bottles are a problem and we are doing something about reducing plastic bottle pollution.
