2026 Season Line-Up – More Shows TBA
If you’ve never seen Sybil Gage in a jazz club “listening house” atmosphere, this is a strong introduction. Her New Orleans roots include a period in New York City before she settled in Florida. Sybil is a songwriter, singer, and bandleader who performs with a classic jazz quintet featuring piano, bass, saxophone, and drums.
Her set lists often blend jazz and jazzy blues favorites with originals. Sybil and her “Royal Catahoulas” have appeared on PBS’s Sunshine Blues, have performed at Blue Bamboo Art Center (Winter Park, Florida), and headline regularly at Heidi’s Jazz Club in Cocoa Beach, Florida.
"Mean Mary" James earned early acclaim as a child performer in Nashville and later built a wide online following, including tens of millions of video views. Her music blends elements of blues, folk, and country, with touches of bluegrass and Celtic influence. She often shifts between banjo, fiddle, and guitar in a performance style that keeps the evening moving.
This appearance features a trio that includes her brother, guitarist Frank James. Mary James is a well-loved and world-touring artist that has appeared as a headliner at festivals and concert nationwide.
Saxophonist Jeff Rupert leads this classic jazz quartet with piano, drums, and upright acoustic bass. Rupert is Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Central Florida and is also active as a producer, recording artist, and freelance tenor saxophonist.
He has performed with notable jazz artists and ensembles and has toured with prominent jazz vocalists. His recordings as a bandleader have charted on JazzWeek.
The Kelly/Scott Jazztet returns from popular demand with vocalist Lisa Kelly and trumpeter J.B. Scott co-fronting their regarded group. Their repertoire includes freshly creative original arrangements of Great American Songbook standards to contemporarily classic tunes in interpretive jazz styles of swing, modern, intimate ballad, Bossa Nova, light funk, waltz, to New Orleans-influenced grooves, with seasonal material sometimes worked in for late-year dates from their latest CD.
Lisa Kelly, highly recognized for her vocals and arrangements, including multiple awards from DownBeat Magazine, teaches jazz voice at UNF. JB Scott, a former leader of the famous Dukes of Dixieland in New Orleans, and trumpeter under legendary Arturo Sandoval, directs UNF JE 1 and is the Coordinator of Jazz Studies. Performing throughout the U.S. and internationally, Lisa and JB present an entertaining show of engaging, heartwarming jazz with their top-shelf rhythm section!

Inspired by jazz clubs visited in Chicago and in Florida, New Spirit Café was designed as a “listening house” — a room intended for focused listening rather than background music. Seating at 4-top and 2-top tables creates a warm jazz club atmosphere. New Spirit Café is not a restaurant, but there is a beverage bar with light snacks.
