End of Season BBQ & Blues at Lansdowne Street Pub in Bonita, and sunset side-trip to the beach in Bonita!

Got word from Kevin and Jennifer Barry that a get-together
was going down, so headed over to Lansdowne Street Pub!
Been there multiple times before - Bloody Mary Blues Fest Wraps,
Festival check presentation, all with good food, super people,
and great music. This day was no exception!

Lansdowne Street Pub

The right place, at the right time!

Even though a lot of the people here would have loved to be in Daytona for
Victor Wainwright's CD release party, the 500 mile round trip was a bit daunting,
so they sported some WildRoots merch in support!

The next photo is really a youtube video. Just click on the arrow
to make it go!

Catching up time! Already been two months since Bonita Blues Fest... Hey Kevin! Whatcha working on for 2016????

Too much sun for this fellow....

Those are some hard-working ladies behind the
bar keeping all these blues fans happy!

Don't matter how you get here, get here how you can!

Yes, Kevin, right over there!!

A happy group of bluesers!!

Yes, HAVE A GREAT TIME!

Smiles abound in Bonita!
A short detour down to Doc's to watch the sun go down, and the rains come in.
Nice!

My kind of back door!

See you in March! http://www.bonitablues.com

Was it JAZZ? (Allen Kanvosky asks the eternal questions of life...)

Submitted by Al Kanovsky 05/31/15

That's a tough question. Was it good? Nooooooo. It was GREAT.

The music last night could only be defined as great. Maybe even fantastic. The cellar of Le Chat Noir was S.R.O. The feature---the Luis Mario Ochoa Quintet. Luis on guitar and doing the vocals. The maestro Felix Gomez on piano. Nestor Del Prado on bass. Thrilling Alfredo Chacon on latin percussion, and the one and only Carlo Magn(ific)o Araya at the kit.Alexis Salis is the ultimate host. If there are one or two beautiful women seated alone he will convince them that I am a perfect tablemate.

Last night it was with WDNA(88.9FM) radio personality Viviam Maria Lopez and her Mom, Gloria Guzman. Viviam Maria hosts and produces the radio  show "Cubaneando" which airs Wednesdays at 7PM. Luis opened with a traditional Cuban melody "Carbonero"(the charcoal peddler). Five notes in I knew it would be a special night of musica. Luis plays acoustic guitar with the soul of a gypsy but with the heart of a Cubano. His voice is liquid velvet. During the course
of the evening he touched me with his "Siboney", made my spirit soar with the samba from "Orpheo Negro" and had me shaking my shoulders with all the different Latin rhythms. Some son, a couple of boleros, a little guaguanco. Each of the musicians produced impeccably played solos. Felix and Nestor perfectly matched. Alfred & Carlo speaking to each other by beating on skins. Luis is also a composer and the band did a couple of his originals. One of which was so beautifully romantic I almost proposed to Ms. Guzman. Felipe Lamoglia sat in on tenor for that one and did a great solo. The charming Susana Behar stopped by to chat for a moment. Have you ever heard "When I'm Without You" in espanol. If so you will know why it is one of the Romance languages. Another original was a samba and it was pure JAZZ.

They closed with a habanero done in an up-temp 3/4 time. Exciting and a great way to end a show.

This afternoon The Fish House in Kendall. A young musician showcase Hosted by Ira and Nicole.

A perfect night in paradise...(ends with black beans and rice for Allen Kanovsky?)

Submitted by Al Kanovsky 05/30/15

...is lit by an almost full moon. Soft breezes make palm leaves sway. You are sitting in a fold up chair with an ice cold beer in hand. The site is a park named for one of Florida's most acclaimed JAZZ musicians, Jaco Pastorius. Music is in the air. It's BLUES. And I mean BLUES. Momma BLUES is on stage along with songstress Rita Wilburn. The musicians. Jeff Prine (guitar), Mitch Goldstein (B3) and young Kerster Landoval on drums. The tune they use for the sound check is "C-Jam Blues".

There's something a little different about Jeff's playing. I seem to detect some JAZZ licks. Later on he will tell me he has started to take JAZZ lessons. BLUES is the mother. JAZZ is the child with the Masters Degree. Rita is first with "Gimme One Reason To Stay". Jeff and Mitch solo and we are in BLUEStown. Kerster serves up a nice tempo shuffle for "My Baby Just Cares For Me". Rita slows it down a bit with an emotional "Since I Fell For You" . Jeff's solo has Rita humming along. Lovely!. Juanita Dixon takes the stage and mic for "The Meanest Man I Ever Seen".

Momma BLUES evokes memories of all the BLUEs ladies of yesteryear. Juanita can belt them out. She does "Come To Momma" and then remembering B.B. King, who we will miss, she does "I Love To Live The Life That I Sing About" changing the lyric to "I like to love the LOVE that I sing about". She concluded that portion with "Somebody". Rita comes back with "Everyday". She's got it rockin' when Mitch gets the feeling and Jeff catches the kick. She moves us to N'awlins with a little back-beat with "Baby, Come On Home To Me". Rita also remembered B.B. with "The Thrill Is Gone". Jeff welcomes young David Julian(guitar) to join the band. It's Juanita's turn again and "Unchain My Heart" followed by "You Make Me Feel Brand New". Rita gets to do Gladys Knight's "Who Will Be The First To Say Goodbye". A showcase for her vocal dynamism. Juanita does "You Made Your Move Too Soon". If there were walls Rita would have blown them down with her rendition of "Summertime". If anyone knows how to bring down the curtain it's Momma BLUES. How about "At Last" and "For Your Love". OOOOOOWeeeee baby!!!!!!. One of the couples that danced do a "sit on my knee" step that is kind of unique.

It was Rita's birthday on April 25th. I have written poems for her for the past 5 birthdays. If you would like a copy of the latest one and I might put it up on Facebook.

It was early and so I headed for Q-Bar. I arrived listened for a moment and decided to take a pass. Had a burrito at Zona Fresca instead.

Went to bed thinking of Juanita & Rita and all the wonderful music I heard.

Also wondering if I was gonna make any 'black bean' music myself.

Bob Margolin Plays Buckingham Blues Bar - Real Blues, Real Place, Real People... Photos & Vids from last night's show.

Last night Jazz Blues Florida drove to the Caloosahatchee, headed up-river, took a right at the Orange River, and headed down towards Buckingham, past Cemetery Road, and into a night of music to remember.

A quick stop at the The Hut and Peace Tropical Gardens' dog friendly patio bar (traveling with Princess & Kathy this evening) for a starter beverage and some of their great bar-menu apps for dinner and to catch a couple of Harry Cassano's tunes from the main stage inside. Running late, of course, so the tour of the grounds and a more relaxed meal will wait for another day (or night, as is usually the case).

Tommy Lee Cook, proprietor of the World Famous Buckingham Blues Bar, must have been an art and history major in school because when you pull up to his roadhouse at night out here in this Lee County designated "Rural Community Preserve", it is like stepping into a painting of the past. The green lights shining down on the signage, proudly, and simply, giving you the name of the joint and who is up on stage tonight. The neon lights through the window slats. The large oaks, dripping moss unto the roof, the paved-to gravel parking lot that fronts the building and runs around the northside to the backyard and into the darkness. Do you think there are gators in that pond just over the fence back there at the end of the lot? Or, maybe, a mule or two, in the field beyond the water?

So, come on inside, say hello to Karen behind the bar, Sid, Mel, Chris, and of course, Tommy Lee himself. Order a cold one, sit back, and enjoy the music of Bob Margolin, who has played more places like this across and around the world than there are songs to sing. Welcome to Buckingham...

Harry Cassano on the main stage...

Yes, Buckingham even has it own 'flavor' of Florida music!

When you get there, this is what you get...

A typical atypical roadhouse... why?
How many do you know of with a music playground out back?

Let's take a peek in....yep! Music is on!

Keeping an eye on things....

When the 'feel' matches the music, magic happens!

This one is going in the 'permanent' file!

How many roads? How many stages? How many songs?

Bob, as cool as the music he plays...

And more!

Tad Walters & Kathy mugging it up!

Here is the youtube playlist for the night.
Start the vid and it will
loop through all five clips. Enjoy!

Blues News Flash! Annika Chambers Added to Earl's Hideaway Sunday FREE Show with Todd Sharpville!

Things just keep getting better at
Earl's Hideaway in Sebastian!

Texas Super Star Blues Singer Annika Chambers has been added to the FREE show this weekend, Sunday May 31, 2015. Annika will open the show at 2pm and British Guitar Blues Master, Todd Sharpville follows, and the music goes to 6pm.

Ms. Annika Chambers, is a 2015 BMA nominee here from flood ravaged Houston, Tx...And, as most Texas musicians do, she has dynamic MONSTER vocals .. ..Her soulful, heartwarming, ground stomping Blues will shock and amaze not only our regular listeners but other musicians too..This 8 year Army Vet has used her sense of discipline to rise above and beyond your expectations..It is said she is Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, and Beth Hart combined into one powerful voice. Also holding a degree in radio and TV broadcasting, she is quickly climbing the charts and made it to the final round of the IBC's. Other awards include Houston Press's Best Female Vocalist as well as Sammy Awards Best Blues Band in Houston. Her recent "Making MY Mark" release features Grammy award winning musicians and she is rising quickly on the Living Blues (#6) and Roots Music (#20) charts...And, she'll be opening for the U.K.'s Todd Sharpville THIS Sunday !

This is Annika's LAST FLORIDA APPEARANCE on this tour!

There is SOoo much to say about Todd Sharpville that I can't fit it all in here...He has been called the "Randy Newman" of the Blues. Coming all the way from the United Kingdom for the show, Todd once beat out Eric Clapton and Gary Moore for Britain's BEST BLUES GUITARIST in '95! It is said he used to play to IMPRESS, but NOW...plays to EXPRESS ! A regular on European stages, Sharpville is taking America by storm. Signed to Red Lightning Records ( U.K.) in '94, his stable mates were Joe Louis Walker, John Lee Hooker , Muddy Waters and Buddy Guy. Influences range from Magic Slim ( whose son plays Earl's the following week), T Bone Walker and Peter Green to non Blues men Dylan, Tom Waits, Willie Nelson & Woody Guthrie. He is famous for his emotionally , charged , highly intense, full of real spirit shows, proving that Britain still has TOP TALENT in Blues culture...For 8 years, he hosted Britain's most notoriously rocking blues jam sessions at Weavers night club in Islington, England, where his guests included Larry McCray, Fats Domino, Joe Louis Walker, Jerry Portnoy and Larry Garner, among others. He has toured with Mick Taylor and Leo Sayer and collaborated with Mick Lister (Amy Winehouse, Bad Company).Todd also played on the opener for Ana Popovic's 03 release Comfort to the Soul...and has appeared as the first European guest (several times) on the Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruise...which is the true Mecca of the Blues....He also opened for PINK, Joe Cocker, and Bo Diddley and played behind B.B. King on his last European tour. Sharpville's blistering musicianship saw him sign in '07 with Cathouse Records (Britain) with LR&BC partner David Jones. Also plays as guest on Joe Lous Waker's Witness to the Blues record. PORCHLIGHT is Todd' latest offering and it's musicians include Kim Wilson ( famous T Birds), Joe Louis Walker and Roomful of Blues's sax man Doug Jones. Porchlight is considered to be his best record to date and you can experience it right here.

Both of these artists are MAJOR festival headliners and it promises to be another incredible day of music at Earl's, like only Earl's does it!
