Jim Hacker directs the FIU Studio Jazz Big Band, with special guest vocalist Lisanne Lyons. Later she directs the newly formed jazz vocal ensemble for a selection of favorites.
Lisanne Lyons earned her Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Miami Frost School of Music. Lisanne Lyon’s career began immediately after high school as the featured vocalist with three Air Force bands, as well as with the Woody Herman Orchestra, Maynard Ferguson, Arturo Sandoval, Roanoke Symphony, Palm Beach Pops and various bands and orchestras across the country. She currently teaches Jazz Voice at Florida International University, School of Music, in Miami.
She has produced two solo CDs and two CDs as lead soprano in the Uptown Vocal Jazz Quartet, with whom she performed at major jazz festivals across the country and abroad. She also performs with the jazz group Mad Romance. After earning her master’s degree, she joined the national touring company of “City of Angels” and was a featured performer with Joel Grey on an NBC Orange Bowl halftime show. With numerous performing, recording, and backup singing credits, plus several Down Beat awards, Lisanne Lyons is in demand as a performer, arranger, adjudicator and clinician.

In collaboration with other members of the FIU jazz faculty, Tom Lippincott will present an exciting program consisting of his unique arrangements of standards, jazz tunes, contemporary popular songs, and original compositions. Eight-string guitarist Lippincott incorporates the extra range of his instrument and various electronic effects and loops to create lush harmonies and ethereal soundscapes.
