On Wednesday, February
12, the Gold Coast Jazz Society presents
jazz pianist and vocalist Freddy Cole. Cole will be
backed by his quartet members who include Curtis Boyd on drums, Randy Napolean
on guitar and Elias Bailey on bass. The concert will take place at the Amaturo
Theater of the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, 201 SW 5th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale at
7:45pm. Single tickets are available for $45 per person. Students
and teacher tickets are $10 with valid ID. To purchase tickets call the

Lionel Frederick Cole was born on October 15, 1931, the youngest of Edward and Paulina Nancy Cole’s five children. His three elder brothers, Eddie, Ike and Nat (12 years Freddy’s senior) were all musicians. “I started playing piano at five or six,” Freddy remembers. “Music was all around me.” In the

“one of the few male jazz singers these days who is still at the height of his
powers and can be taken seriously,” said Ben Ratiff of The New York Times.
There are unmistakable similarities to sounding like his brother Nat “King”
Cole, but Freddy’s voice is raspier, smokier, and jazzier. His phrasing
is closer to Frank Sinatra or Billie Holiday than that of his brother.
