For the past 37 years, Grammy award winners BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet has been making some of the most potent and popular Cajun music on the planet. Born out of the rich Acadian ancestry of its members, and created and driven by bandleader Michael Doucet’s spellbinding fiddle playing and soulful vocals, BeauSoleil is notorious for bringing even the most staid audience to its feet. BeauSoleil’s distinctive sound derives from the distilled spirits of New Orleans jazz, blues rock, folk, swamp pop, Zydeco, country and bluegrass.  They are regular guests on Garrison Keillor’s National Public Radio show A Prairie Home Companion, where Keillor has dubbed them as “the best Cajun band in the world,” and their music is so integral to the Cajun culture that they have been featured on the New Orleans-based hit HBO program Treme.

About Jon Cleary
Considered to be one of New Orleans’ “best kept secrets,” singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jon Cleary has been a fixture of New Orleans’ musical culture for over twenty years. For his latest album Occapella, a tribute to legendary pianist and producer Allen Toussaint recorded in the bayou country of Louisiana and honed in his studio in the old Bywater district of NOLA, he collaborated with multi-Grammy winning producer John Porter (BB King, Keb Mo, Ryan Adams, Los Lonely Boys) and invited guests like Dr. John and Bonnie Raitt to sit in. Each of the carefully crafted songs is a “delicate balance of the smooth and the rough; instantly memorable hooks over a set of sophisticated and soulful arrangements.”

Every great sports team deserves a great band, and the Miami Heat is no exception!  The Heat Street Band is led by Michael Randle, who wanted to re-create the musical experience he had enjoyed as part of the legendary marching band at Florida A&M University.  The Heat Street Band, which ranges from 15 to 25 members, is a funky dancing musical machine with a full horn section and mighty drumline.  Their music can be enjoyed at Heat games, and they always leave Heat fans wanting more.

Cajun Cuisine
When one thinks of New Orleans, food comes to mind immediately.  Home to a distinctive cuisine, the taste of New Orleans is a rich gumbo.  Broward-based restaurant Rosey Baby will provide for sale some key foods, including a live crawfish boil, po’boys, gumbo, jambalaya and more.

The Rhythm Foundation, in partnership with the City of Hollywood and Hollywood CRA, launched the Hollywood ArtsPark Experience, a series of free community events celebrating South Florida’s vibrant cultural diversity through music, food, folklore, and the arts. These family-friendly cultural showcases take place in the award-winning ArtsPark at Young Circle and US1 in Hollywood’s charming downtown, a 10-acre interactive urban park which boasts an expanded amphitheater that can accommodate up to 3,000 people, several play areas for families, a promenade for vendors and exhibitors, an indoor pavilion area for receptions and exhibits, playgrounds, and much more. Lawn seating is available and guests can bring a blanket or lawn chair.

This ArtsPark Project is funded in party by Broward County through the Broward County Board of County Commissioners with proceeds from the 2000 Broward County Safe Parks and Land Preservation Bond Issue.
