Sunday was a day filled with fun and music. We started the day (afternoon) with a Gospel brunch at an alternative lifestyle club named LIPS. The audience was diverse to say the least. A church book club, an Israeli girls club celebrating a birthday, a group of "guys" celebrating another b-day, Flo & I with some of our friends and one of their daughters. Everyone there enjoyed the gospel renditions with the vocalists(lip-synced) clad in gorgeous "DRAG".
On to Blue Jean Blues for Barbara Vanns Sunday Jazz Jam and hoppin' across the street for some smoking blues at Fish Tales. Hot is the only word that describes what Doctor Bob presented Sunday afternoon. Josh Roland(guitar) Deny Roland(bass) Drew Preston(guitar)Doc on drums and a musician we hadn't heard before, Patrick Fiores playing guitar, keyboards and harp. The session was great and we stayed through all 3 sets. We were told that Patrick and his band would be featured next Sunday. Bounced back to BJBs in time to catch Lourdes doing Broadway show tunes. She had wonderful arrangements and a super rhythm section backing her. James McCoy(bass) Orlando Muchado(drums) and Larry Clark(piano and keyboard). One more drink, a cupacawfee and headed home with wonderful memories, riffs lingering in my ear drums and visions of more to come music in my head. Toes tappin' on the upbeat, Hands clappin' on the down beat, doin' the town in nothin' flat and 4/4 time.
