Australian
jazz guitarist Albare will be
appearing in concert at Delray Beach’s Arts Garage on Saturday June 14th,
2014. Accompanying him will be two Cuban musicians: Axel
Tosca on piano, Yunior Terry on bass, plus Venezuelan drummer Pablo
Bencid.
Albare will be joined by a very special guest and friend of Arts Garage: Sammy Figueroa, a beloved master
percussionist whose home is in South Florida but whose travels in recent years
include world tours with Sonny Rollins and Brazilian super-star Jorge Ben
Jor. As a solo recording artist with
his own band, Sammy has been honored with two Grammy Nominations for Best Latin
Jazz album.
Albare
is a virtuoso guitarist with a wealth of global influences. Born in Morocco, but raised in Israel and
France, he has resided in Australia since his mid-20’s, where he has indulged
his love of jazz from a multitude of angles.
As one of Australia’s most prominent musicians, when not recording or
travelling around the globe, he immerses himself in the genre locally, heading
up the Melbourne Jazz Festival, chairing the Annual Jazz Awards, encouraging
young musicians through his philanthropic ways and more. This combination of dedication to the art form of
jazz and its community earned him an Order Of Australia in 2008.
Albare’s music is
exploratory, swinging and yet romantic, at times laces with elements of his
Middle Eastern roots. Albare will be
showcasing his extensive repertoire, from music recorded in the ‘90’s, to
previously unheard new material, and especially music from his most recent
release “The Road Ahead” and his
previous album “Long Way”. Both of these albums coincide with Albare’s
artistic relationship with Germany’s Matthias Winckelmann and his premier jazz record
label Enja.
His
signature guitar sound, with its stunning blend of warmth and precision, is no
mistake; all of his custom designed instruments are courtesy of his ongoing
musical partnerships with Gibson Guitars and independent engineers, spanning
their association and backing of over twenty years.
Don’t miss this unique opportunity to spend
an evening discovering the unique style and extraordinary band.
