Synopsis:
This documentary contains never-before-seen footage of Rivers performing new music at Columbia University’s Aaron Davis Hall and at the Plaza Theatre near his home in Orlando. It features interviews with jazz musicians who played with Rivers during the 'loft days' and went on to be recording artists in their own right. Rivers reflects on a time of great creativity but in listening to recent performances here of his Trio and Jazz Orchestra we are reminded Rivers never stopped inspiring young artists and pleasing new audiences.

On November 10, 2007 Sam Rivers returned to New York City for a revival concert in Harlem. Among hundreds of dedicated fans in the audience sat a unique group of jazz artists who remembered the “loft days” when Rivers opened his home on Bond Street to any musicians who wanted to jam or learn how to improvise. The three-story factory on the Lower East Side became an incubator for experimental jazz long before any venues for such music ever existed. Rivers performed with the Miles Davis Quintet in 1964 and later recorded for Blue Note Records. Now in his eighties, Rivers is still composing.
