Selwyn Birchwood & Deuces Wild play Mount Dora Blues & Wine Festival May 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 2010

#JazzBluesFlorida #jazz #blues #Florida #Concerts #Festivals #Clubs

Selwyn Birchwood stumbled upon the Blues at age seventeen while attending a Buddy Guy concert in Orlando. After witnessing the raw energy and power the music created first hand, he decided it was what he wanted to pursue. He has spent the years since then trying to hone his skill to convey the same intensity and feeling of the blues greats. After seeing him perform in a local club, Texas Bluesman Sonny Rhodes offered him the chance to hit the road and tour nationally. Selwyn quickly took advantage of the opportunity and has frequently toured with his blues mentor across the U.S. and Canada at many premiere venues including: “Terra Blues” in New York City, “Big Muddy Blues Festival” in St. Louis, “Beltline Blues Fest” in Calgary, Alberta, and “Buddy Guy’s Legends” in Chicago. Selwyn is backed by a rocksolid rhythm section that is as bluesy as it gets. Auggie Antoine (Bass) was a regular at Kingsnake Records in Sanford, Fl. In its heyday Kingsnake turned out records for many notable artists including Ace Moreland, Rufus Thomas, and Kenny Neal. The band also features Dave Scitney (Drums) who adds his own style keeping the pulse of their unique brand of swampy Florida Blues. They will appear on Sunday at noon.

POOR ELIJAH IS COMIN HOME TO ATLANTA

#JazzBluesFlorida #jazz #blues #Florida #Concerts #Festivals #Clubs

Poor Elijah is Comin' Home to Atlanta for One Night Only
Friday, June 18, 2009 7pm 7Stages

The Poor Elijah Fund for Musicians in Need inc. will be holding their first Charity concert at 7pm on Friday, June 18, 2010 at 7Stages Theater on Euclid Ave.

The Concert will Feature: Bonnie Bramlett, Diane Durrett, Richard Bicknell, Pat Terry, Burn and The Mike Delaney Project! Tickets are on Sale on the Web at: www.cominhomeforpoorelijah.org $35 in Advance and $40 at the door on the day of the show. Only 200 tickets will be sold!

The Poor Elijah Fund for Musicians in Need inc. was founded by Michele Bramlett (the eldest daughter of Delaney Bramlett) along with her sisters and friend M.A D'Arrigo earlier this year to raise funds for young musicians. Specifically the Fund works to raise both funds and alternative resources for musicians who would otherwise
slip through the cracks of the Music Industry. Their Mission Statement reads as follows:
The Poor Elijah Fund For Musicians in Need (PEFMN) was created to fill the giant gap between “Celebrity” musicians' funding and healthcare and the average musician living in the U.S.. PEFMN have used many of the beliefs and tenets of our friend, father and musical hero Delaney Bramlett as an example for how we can help other people in need. We feel that all musicians should have the same qualities of life as people
with regular jobs. The problem is that musicians are not insured by their employer as that, that employer may change 7 nights a week. Musicians may go weeks or even months without a regular paycheck, and yes they could go out and get a 9-5er, but that might prevent them from writing the next big hit.

The programs that currently exist to help musicians in need are few and far between. In many cases the waiting lists just to enter in the process can take weeks or even months, or there are qualifying conditions attached that exclude younger or new musicians. PEFMN plans on trying to offset some of this problem by offering a streamlined approach to the needs of each case; tailored to each musicians needs.
The corporation will also endeavor to create musical educational programs for the poor. PEFMN and it's Board of Directors have relationships with many Public and Private Schools throughout the country.

PEFMN plans on using those relationships to help fund and promote Musical education in our schools. PEFMN agrees strongly with the statistics that state that Musical Education helps students improve in every other subject matter. As that it not only helps to develop creativity and self esteem, but also good communication and reading skills; not to mention that music is entirely guided by Mathematics.

The long and short term plan is to raise monies through the production and promotion of charitable musical events, DVDs, CDs and any other such fund-raising that are permitted under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Once all corporation costs are met; the remaining monies raised will go directly to musicians and or family members of musicians who are in need of financial assistance due to debts (public or
private), medical needs or musical production.

BLUES MUSIC AWARDS CELEBRATE THE BEST OF BLUES MUSIC WITH 2-DAY MEMPHIS EXTRAVAGANZA

BIG HONOREES INCLUDE BUDDY GUY, TOMMY CASTRO AND DEBBIE DAVIES, RECIPIENT OF FIRST-EVER KOKO TAYLOR AWARD

Marathon Party Featured Lifetime Achievement Award Winner Buddy Guy, and Performances by Tommy Castro, Eden Brent & Monkey Junk And Others

[Memphis, TN, May 7, 2010] The Blues Foundation has done it again. The party of the year for Blues music has once again left its mark on Memphis with a two-day marathon event, kicking off on Wednesday with this year's induction ceremony for the Blues Hall of Fame, and culminating last night with a seven plus hour celebration of the Blues Music Awards. Presented by The Gibson Foundation, the Blues Music Awards are universally recognized as the highest honor given to Blues artists, and are voted on by fellow performers, industry representatives, and fans from around the globe who are members of The Blues Foundation.

This year, the awards ceremony honored winners in 26 categories, presented by some of the most influential members of the Blues community, including artist Mickey Thomas, Washington Blues Society President Eric Steiner, Blues Foundation board member Steve Bryson, and Nashville Blues Society charter member Kathy Bolmer.

This year's big winner was Tommy Castro, named the B.B. King Entertainer of the Year and collecting a total of four awards, in all four categories in which he was nominated including Band of the Year, Contemporary Blues Album of the Year, and Contemporary Blues Male Artist of the Year. Bonnie Raitt - an inductee in this year's Blues Hall of Fame - presented Buddy Guy with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Also presenting at last night's ceremony was Koko Taylor's daughter, Cookie Taylor, to present the renamed Koko Taylor Award (formerly Best Traditional Female Artist) to its first-ever recipient, Blues guitarist Debbie Davies, whose album Holdin' Court was released last fall.

Blues pianist Pinetop Perkins was on hand to present his namesake Piano Player Award to this year's winner Eden Brent, recipient of two 2009 Blues Music Awards and winner of the 2006 Blues Foundation International Blues Challenge.

Joe Louis Walker, who received the most nominations this year with a total of five, received one for Album of the Year for his Between a Rock and the Blues album release.

Of this year's event, The Blues Foundation Executive Director Jay Sieleman said, "There is a great vibe to this event but the real secret is not a secret at all-great music by performer after performer."

Kicking off the two-day event on Wednesday night, a committee of scholars, record producers, radio programmers, and historians inducted the following performers into the Blues Hall of Fame: Louisiana-born, Chicago-based bluesman Lonnie Brooks, highly-esteemed blues singer and harpist Charlie Musselwhite and singer, songwriter, guitarist and social activist Bonnie Raitt. The Blues Hall of Fame committee is chaired by Jim O'Neal, founding editor of Living Blues.

The Blues Music Awards brings together Blues performers, industry representatives and fans from all over the world to celebrate the best in Blues recordings and performances from the previous year. The presenting sponsor is The Gibson Foundation and the sustaining sponsor is BMI. Additional 2010 BMA sponsors include ArtsMemphis, band Village, Casey Family Programs, Eagle Rock Entertainment, FedEx, Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruise, Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, I55 Productions, and the Tennessee Arts Commission.

For those who were unable to attend this epic event in Memphis, The Blues Foundation will make The Blues Music Awards ceremony available on DVD later this year. As with the DVD releases of the 2007, 2008, and 2009 ceremonies, the 2010 edition will include all the evening's winners and performances on one memorable disc. For more information, visit www.blues.org.

The Blues Foundation is Memphis-based, but world-renown as the organization dedicated to preserving our blues music history, celebrating recording and performance excellence, supporting blues education and ensuring the future of this uniquely American art form. Founded in 1980, the Foundation has 3500 individual members and 185 affiliated local blues societies representing another 50,000 fans and professionals around the world. Its signature honors and events --the Blues Music Awards, Blues Hall of Fame, International Blues Challenge and Keeping the Blues Alive Awards-- make it the international center of blues music. Its HART Fund provides the blues community with medical assistance while its Sound Healthcare program offers musicians health insurance access. The Blues Foundation's Blues in the Schools programs and Generation Blues scholarships expose new generations to blues music. Throughout the year, the Foundation staff serves the worldwide Blues community with answers, contact information and news.

Matt "Guitar" Murphy LIVE in Davie, Florida on May 12th, 2010

#JazzBluesFlorida #jazz #blues #Florida #Concerts #Festivals #Clubs

Hello Everyone!
This is going to be one of those shows that you will be talking about for a long time to come. It is going to be a "I remember seeing MGM out in Davie a small club." type thing, because he is going back on the international touring circuit and you won't see him up close and personal after that gets going.
Hope you get the experience,
Charlie

Matt "Guitar" Murphyat Big Dawgs 2
7357 Davie Road Ext., Davie FL 33024
(954)272-3294
$5, 7pm, May 12, 2010
Backed up by JC Crossfire Band & One Night Stan's horn section The Hollywood Horns

Murphy has been living in South Miami since 2003 while recuperating in semi-retirement. In 2008 Tim O’Donnell from The Nouveaux Honkies coaxed Matt out to perform at a festival in Fellsmere, Florida. Since then Matt has performed with TNH at many venues throughout South Florida. O’Donnell’s label, Bluzpik Rekerdz, stepped up to put a booking agent and management in place and starting taping a Matt Murphy documentary which will finish filming at the Daytona Blues Festival on October 9, 2010.

Bluzpik President and Director of Artist Relations Leo Gale states, “It has been quite a unique experience working with a living legend and old school guitarist. There are always plenty of Blues Brothers fans at the shows and that is fun. But the real thrill for me is to watch the guitarists and other musicians in the crowd stand in awe with their mouths open. Matt has influenced generations of guitarists from Hubert Sumlin in the 50’s and Jeff Beck in the 60’s to future stars on the way up like Albert Castiglia and Tim O’Donnell. Mr. Murphy is healthy again, playing tremendously, looking forward to performing at big festivals and getting back into the studio."

Known by millions from his role as guitarist in the smash movie “The Blues Brothers”, Matt “Guitar” Murphy is doing a final show locally before completing his comeback at the Chicago Blues Festival in June with his former band mate James Cotton. Matt is performing at major Blues Festivals this summer and fall for the first time since suffering a stroke in the early part of the decade. He will be performing with the James Cotton Band, The Legends Band featuring Pine Top Perkins, Hubert Sumlin and Willie “Big “ Eyes, and his Florida based band The Nouveaux Honkies over the summer and into 2011.

The May 12th show will kick off @ 8PM at Big Dawgs 2, 7357 Davie Road Extension in Davie Florida.

Rose Max Caps JAMS Season

#JazzBluesFlorida #jazz #blues #Florida #Concerts #Festivals #Clubs

Rose Max & Ramatis came to West Palm Beach to close the season for The Jazz Arts Music Society of Palm Beach (JAMS) this past Tuesday and what a fantastic performance! The great Federico Britos joined them with his violin, Diogo Brown provided the up-right/not-uptight sounds, and Goran Rista was on the drums. Closing the season with a packed house is always a great way to head into the summer, and Rose certainly made sure the patrons were sent out in style and sophistication. If you missed this show, the journey to Miami to see them should be put on your to-do list...they are in demand and perform often, as well they should....Makes me want to fly down to Rio, for sure!
