The Poor Elijah Fund for Musicians in Need inc. was founded by Michele Bramlett (the eldest daughter of Delaney Bramlett) along with her sisters and friend M.A D'Arrigo earlier this year to raise funds for young musicians. Specifically the Fund works to raise both funds and alternative resources for musicians who would otherwise
slip through the cracks of the Music Industry. Their Mission Statement reads as follows:
The Poor Elijah Fund For Musicians in Need (PEFMN) was created to fill the giant gap between “Celebrity” musicians' funding and healthcare and the average musician living in the U.S.. PEFMN have used many of the beliefs and tenets of our friend, father and musical hero Delaney Bramlett as an example for how we can help other people in need. We feel that all musicians should have the same qualities of life as people
with regular jobs. The problem is that musicians are not insured by their employer as that, that employer may change 7 nights a week. Musicians may go weeks or even months without a regular paycheck, and yes they could go out and get a 9-5er, but that might prevent them from writing the next big hit.
The programs that currently exist to help musicians in need are few and far between. In many cases the waiting lists just to enter in the process can take weeks or even months, or there are qualifying conditions attached that exclude younger or new musicians. PEFMN plans on trying to offset some of this problem by offering a streamlined approach to the needs of each case; tailored to each musicians needs.
The corporation will also endeavor to create musical educational programs for the poor. PEFMN and it's Board of Directors have relationships with many Public and Private Schools throughout the country.
PEFMN plans on using those relationships to help fund and promote Musical education in our schools. PEFMN agrees strongly with the statistics that state that Musical Education helps students improve in every other subject matter. As that it not only helps to develop creativity and self esteem, but also good communication and reading skills; not to mention that music is entirely guided by Mathematics.
The long and short term plan is to raise monies through the production and promotion of charitable musical events, DVDs, CDs and any other such fund-raising that are permitted under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Once all corporation costs are met; the remaining monies raised will go directly to musicians and or family members of musicians who are in need of financial assistance due to debts (public or
private), medical needs or musical production.
