The Orlando Jazz Orchestra, featuring vocalist Amy Zahniser Parnell, presents A Night to Swing! at the Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at 7 p.m.
The concert celebrates America's Swing Era and the Great American Songbook with music associated with Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Harry James and Artie Shaw. Vocal selections include songs made famous by Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee, Rosemary Clooney, Doris Day and Helen O'Connell.
About the Orlando Jazz Orchestra
Often described as the "crown jewel" of Central Florida's professional jazz scene, the Orlando Jazz Orchestra (OJO) performs classic big band arrangements with full brass, saxophone and rhythm sections, ensemble passages and featured instrumental solos.
OJO was founded by drummer and music director Greg Parnell, whose career includes touring with the Glenn Miller Orchestra as both drummer and road manager, as well as performances with the Jimmy Dorsey, Tommy Dorsey, Les Brown and Nelson Riddle orchestras. A Sanford, Florida, resident and president of Glenn Miller Productions, Inc., Parnell brings firsthand experience with historic touring big bands to the orchestra's performances.
Featuring Vocalist Amy Zahniser Parnell
Amy Zahniser Parnell joins OJO to interpret songs associated with the leading female vocalists of the Swing Era. Her performance reflects the important role singers played alongside big bands, bringing lyrics, phrasing and individual interpretations to orchestral arrangements. These standards remain part of today's jazz and popular vocal repertoire, including the work of contemporary performers such as Diana Krall and Michael Bublé.
