Concert Doors: 7:45 PM
New York-based Hazmat Modine brings its combination of blues, swing jazz and international musical influences to the Banyan Bowl at Pinecrest Gardens as part of the venue's Sound Sessions series.
Led by vocalist and harmonica player Wade Schuman, the ensemble draws from early American blues, New Orleans musical traditions, gypsy jazz, Afro-Cuban rhythms and global folk music. The group's instrumentation includes harmonicas, tuba, horns, banjo, guitar, violin and percussion, producing arrangements that connect traditional and contemporary styles.
Hazmat Modine has toured more than 40 countries over its career, performing and collaborating with musicians from a range of traditions. Its collaborators have included Bombino, the Kronos Quartet, Cat Empire, the GangbΓ© Brass Band of Benin and Natalie Merchant.
The band's album Cicada received France's Charles Cros Award for Best Blues Album and reached No. 1 on European world music charts, according to the event's official biography. The title track from the group's debut album, Bahamut, was also featured in Wim Wenders' 3D dance documentary Pina.
