Ken
Peplowski (1958–2026)
Jazz & Blues Florida acknowledges the passing of Ken Peplowski, one of the most respected clarinetists and tenor saxophonists in contemporary jazz, whose long and consistent presence on Florida stages made him a familiar and appreciated figure to audiences across the state.
While Jazz & Blues
Florida formally featured Ken Peplowski on two occasions during its earlier
years of credentialed editorial coverage, his connection to Florida extended
far beyond those appearances. Since the platform’s inception, his performances,
recordings, and touring activity have appeared regularly in Jazz & Blues
Florida promotions, listings, and archival references. A review of the Jazz
& Blues Florida News Blog shows his name appearing in approximately 80
of more than 7,300 published posts, reflecting a steady and meaningful
presence in Florida’s jazz ecosystem.
Peplowski’s earliest
documented appearance in the Jazz & Blues Florida video archive dates to 2009,
when he performed for the Jazz Arts Music Society (JAMS) of Palm Beach,
alongside pianist Shelly Berg and bassist Chuck Bergeron. That performance
marked the beginning of a long visual and historical record of his work as
presented to Florida audiences through Jazz & Blues Florida’s documentation
efforts.
Throughout his
career, Ken Peplowski maintained close ties to presenters, jazz societies, and
record labels with strong Florida connections, including Arbors Records,
and was a frequent and welcome presence in concert halls, society series, and
festival programs throughout the state. His musicianship, professionalism, and
commitment to the tradition made him a reliable anchor for presenters and a
trusted name for jazz audiences.
