Celebrating International Women's Month
A Detroit native, Leesa Richards started her career as a dancer on a world tour with the legendary Whitney Houston. Soon after she combined her love for music and dance, earning her the role of Mary Magdalene in the national tour of the Broadway musical, Jesus Christ Superstar. Richards earned critical acclaim leading to featured performances throughout the US and Europe. Leesa continued to develop her vocal prowess via associations with soul greats Gerald Austin, Peabo Bryson and Dionne Farris. Over the years she has performed with many name artists including Faith Hill, The Bee Gees, Gloria Estefan, Julio Iglesias... and Ms. Richards had the opportunity of recording backing vocals for none other than the legend, Barbra Streisand! Her sound taps into the deep roots of soul and the poetry of jazz.

The monthly SUNSHINE JAZZ CONCERT SERIES
is presented on Fridays at our new venue, The Sandrell
Rivers Theater, a new, state-of-the-art theater serving
the city of Miami and all of Miami-Dade County & South
Florida. The theater is named in honor of Chief Sandrell
Rivers, a dedicated, tireless arts advocate, artist and
great friend and integral part of the SJO family. The
Sandrell Rivers Theater is a Miami-Dade County
Department of Cultural Affairs facility.
SJO programming is presented with support of the

County Department of Cultural Affairs
and Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Mayor
and Board of County Commissioners.
