ARTIST INFORMATION
Kathleen Taylor (Gainesville)
Secret Garden at Wisteria Cottage
http://www.highspringsbakery.com/
Kathleen Taylor is a singer - songwriter, who began performing and recording her songs, while she was living in Austin Texas.  After moving back to North Central Florida, she has continued to write songs while working on her and her husband’s farm. She is now in the studio finishing her 4th album produced by Jacob Lawson.  Her newest songs are what you will be experiencing at Folk in the Springs. Kathleen is the quintessential Americana/Folk artist. There is not a single gimmick here; not one bit of the premeditated vocal acrobatics that pass for talent nowadays. What you get is one of the most remarkable, natural voices you’ve ever heard, showcased perfectly in the melodies and lyrics of her songwriting.

Tuck Tucker (Micanopy)
High Springs Museum & Train Station
http://www.highspringsmuseum.org/
Tuck Tucker: skilled side man with ripping solos or masterful musician boasting distinctive solo works?  How about both! Most know Tuck for his riveting style of Dobro play that he has crafted through years of practice, influence and love for his music. His method: a fusion of bluesy slide and beautiful harmonies. He has played with many bands over the years; whether with Red and Murphy & Co, Harmony Grits, or Claire Lynch & the Front Porch String Band, or with platinum album artist Marshal Tucker Band (no name connection) Tucker steals the stage. As for those lucky few who have had the chance to hear his solo act, watch his popular YouTube videos know, Tuck Tucker is no ordinary musician. When playing great traditional such as Shady Grove and Working on a building; or covering Guy Clark and Crowley’s Baton Rouge, Tuck makes classic songs his own in the way he plays and sings. If this wasn’t enough to inspire and entertain, Tuck Tucker’s true marvels lie in his originals. Whether he is making his instrument sing a song of joy or weep for you a tune of sadness, his powerful and beautiful Dobro instrumentals such as Corkscrew, Walkin’ The Wire, and Sleepy Head set the line for all aspiring hopefuls and seasoned musicians alike. His lyrical strides cover every base with loving and humbling songs from “Somehow through it all” and “Children’s Eye’s” to my personal favorite and always fun “Jelly Roll”. If you get the chance to catch him solo or see him in a line up, Tuck Tucker is definitely the man to look out for.

Emmett Carlisle (Gainesville)
The Gazebo in James Paul Park

Emmett is the only songwriter to have two songs on the Top 100 Florida Songs of all Time!

Michael O’Meara (Gainesville)
High Springs Fire Dept.
Michael O’Meara was raised primarily in Brooklyn and the East Village of New York. At around thirteen he read “Bound for Glory” by Woody Guthrie and without knowing the first thing about guitars or music set his cap to accomplishing playing the songs that inspired him. These consisted mostly of the early and later folk artists such as Pete Seeger, Cisco Houston, The Weavers, Ramblin’ Jack Elliot, Odetta and so many others.
Michael started playing in Greenwich Village in the early Eighties at places such as Gerde’s Folk City and also along MacDougal Street with some of the Fast Folk crowd and Dave Van Ronk. By this time he was working on trying to write and craft his own songs. Michael then left New York City after a stint as an iron worker on the Brooklyn Bridge. He headed out west and ended up in Grand Junction, Colorado. Michael got the chance to be the opening act for Dave Van Ronk there, as well as performing in numerous local venues.
Michael has lived in a few other places before arriving in Gainesville, FL in 1993 such as San Francisco, Bisbee, AZ and Westport, CT.
Michael has opened or played with Keb Mo, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, John Lee Hooker, Robert Earl Keen Jr, Townes Van Zandt and the aforementioned Dave Van Ronk. He released a CD called “Chronology” in 2013 which feature songs he had written spanning 30 years.

Brian Smalley (Apopka)
The Great Outdoors Restaurant
http://www.greatoutdoorsdining.com/GO/
His first guitar at age 9 became his best friend, and traveling opened up a whole world to explore and create in.  Brian has a special knack for putting together a musical set. Combining tasty covers and crowd pleasing original pieces, he plays with mad skills and pure energy. The songs Brian has written borrow from folksy flatpicking guitar and new-grass as well as a touch of new-age acoustic music. He sings with a soulful, earthy voice, and his live performances tend to be just that: Lively! For the past twenty years Brian has made music his sole occupation, and has six CDs under his belt: 2013 "Chickens Pigs" which is an acoustic play based in Civil War era in Florida and was recently named Best Florida Folk CD of 2013 by the Florida Times-Union. His latest "Key" is an acoustic novel set in the Florida Keys telling the fictional story of Painter Kelley & Compass Rose. This CD is similar but very different from his other acoustic novels and continues to get critically acclaimed praises. “Key” is currently on rotation at different radio stations thru-out Florida and is in the prospect of making it into a full production play.

Ricky Kendall (Gainesville)
High Springs Playhouse
When I, Michael Loveday, the producer/coordinator of Folk in the Springs asked Ricky to send me a bio for everyone to read, this is what he sent me:
Ricky Kendall has been a Gainesville FL musician for 15 years and has toured all over the eastern U.S.several times. His mix of folk/blues/and soul is crafted into songs about life, love and the beauty of humanity despite it's condition.
You talk about being simple. So I want to tell just a sampling of what I know. Ricky is also the leader of his band; Ricky Kendall and the Healers. Why the Healer’s you asked. Ricky also works for UF Center for Arts in Medicine as a Musician In Residence. He performs “with” the patients to help ease their stay while at the hospital. Not only a terrific songwriter, singer, producer, mentor and more; Ricky’s performances is one of the most intimate and entertaining experiences I have ever witnessed.         Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it's thinking of yourself less. --C. S. Lewis

Rachel Grubb (Lake City)
High Springs Play House                                                www.highspringsplayhouse.com
Rachel is a singer-songwriter from rural North Central Florida. She grew up singing backseat harmony to songs from the Baptist Hymnal and The Mamas and the Papas. Fascinated by lyric and melody from an early age, Rachel wrote poems, sonnets, and sang other people's songs until her early 30's when she decided to give songwriting an earnest try.
Rachel’s style of blues-infused Americana/Folk provides a well-suited background for earnest lyrics that delve into love, loss and letting go.
