Tampa Jazz Club Presents O Som Do Jazz September 28, 2014 at Hillborough Community College / Ybor City

Tampa Jazz Club and HCC/Ybor Performing Arts Series Present:

 O Som Do Jazz

Sunday, September 28, 2014; 3:00 PM

Mainstage Theatre, HCC Performing Arts Building, Ybor City Campus

Join us as the Tampa Jazz Club and HCC present O Som Do Jazz at the Mainstage Theatre on the HCC/Ybor Campus. With a name that literally translates to "the sound of jazz" in Portuguese this international ensemble recaptures the grace, energy and spirit of 1960-70s Brazilian Bossa Nova, MPB (musica popular brasilieira) & samba-jazz.

Singer Andrea Moraes Manson grew up in Rio de Janeiro hearing Bossa Nova & MPB  in house parties that her parents threw almost every weekend (Brazilians love to party!). The parents and kids would get together and sing while her uncle played piano. Andrea prefers a full-voice approach, and legends Elis Regina and Elizete Cardosa are her favorite singers.

Alejandro Arenas (bass) and David Cubillos (piano) are from Colombia with a deep appreciation of Brazilian music.

Austin Vickrey (sax), Mark Feinman (drums) and David Manson (trombone) are the “Americanos” and love the sound of the jazzy Brazilian Tamba and Zimbo Trios.

The group has released two recordings (Infinita Bossa & A Kiss from Rio).  Two original selections from A Kiss from Rio were included in a recent episode of HBO's series, Looking. The group is recording another CD this fall.
