Opening concert features South Florida Jazz Orchestra & Lisanne Lyons

Fort Lauderdale, FL – Jazz Legends of Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow …if you’re a fan of swing and big band jazz, you won’t want to miss the South Florida Jazz Orchestra with Lisanne Lyons in concert on November 11, 2009.

Jazz Legends of Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow with the South Florida Orchestra will take place at the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, 201 SW 5th Ave, Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The show begins at 7:45 pm. Single tickets are $35 and $40 and student tickets are $12. A pre-concert Jazz Riff jazz talk will be given by radio personality Stu Grant at 7:00pm in the theater before the show.

The South Florida Jazz Orchestra is a modern Big Band comprised of some of the best jazz musicians, studio musicians, and jazz educators in the southeastern part of the United States. The members of The SFJO are some of the most experienced


Professionals in the country, having performed and toured with many of the greatest artists in Jazz and Popular music. These musicians’ careers include tenure with the Big Bands of Woody Herman, Buddy Rich, and Maynard Ferguson, and artists from Stan Getz, Dave Grusin, and James Moody to Frank Sinatra, Paul Anka, and Joe Williams.

Band members include Chuck Bergeron, Music Director/bass; Mike Brignola, sax/clarinet; Doug Bickel, piano; Brian Murphy, piano; John Yarling, drums; Gary Keller, sax; Gary Lindsay, sax/clarinet; Ken Mattis, sax; Jason Kush, sax; John Kricker, trombone; Dante Luciani, trombone; Steve Sigmund, trombone; Noah Bellamy, trombone; Augie Haas, trumpet; Alex Norris, trumpet; Matt White, trumpet; and Rodrigo Gallardo, trumpet. Jazz vocalist, Lisanne Lyons, will be the featured special guest artist in this concert.


The SFJO’s eclectic repertoire includes many original compositions by band members, as well as classic charts from such greats as Thad Jones, Charles Mingus, John Clayton, Maria Schneider, Jim McNeely, John Fedchock, and many more.
