Dutch Drummer Extraordinaire Han Bennink & Third Man Trio

(MIAMI, FL – September 29, 2009) Stand-out Dutch jazz Third Man Trio, led by Han Bennink opens Tigertail Productions' 2009-2010 30th Anniversary Season of Art and Soul when they perform on Saturday, October 24, 8:30 pm, at Miami Beach's Byron Carlyle Theater, 500 71st Street.

Perhaps Europe's most coveted drummer, Han Bennink, the 2008 European Jazz Prize winner has performed with Kenny Clark, Sonny Rollins, Eric Dolphy and Dexter Gordon. Noted musicians Michael Moore (reeds) and Will Holshouser (accordion) complete this trio. Pyrotechnic improvisational journeys, whimsical tangents and blissful culminations come fast and furious when the Third Man Trio takes the stage. Bennink with over a forty-year career is a pivotal figure in the genesis of European free jazz. In 2007, his ICP – Instant Composers Pool – Orchestra conducted a USA tour, which confirmed and highlighted Bennink's special role as an ambassador for European Jazz. This concert is part of a ten-city U.S. tour.

This one-night only concert is presented by the non-profit Tigertail Productions, a South Florida leader in innovative cultural work. "Our goal, as always, is to showcase the best of global culture here in Miami, and this concert fits right in with that vision," says Tigertail Executive Director Mary Luft, "Jazz is a uniquely American idiom, but it also flourishes in Europe, where musicians like Bennink are highly regarded." Sponsors of the Third Man Trio concert include Bresaro Suites, the New Hotel and the Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Advance tickets are $25 for general admission, $15 for seniors over 65 and students with a valid I.D., or $50 for VIP tickets with priority entrance and best seating. Student/senior tickets purchased at the door, the day of the concert are $20.
