We are back and swinging! The Tampa Jazz Club is proud to announce the 2009 season of concerts, at a great new venue. We will be presenting concerts in cooperation with Hillsborough Community College, as part of the HCC Visual and Performing Arts Series, in the beautifully renovated Performing Arts Building Theater. It’s on the NE corner of Palm and 14th St., in Ybor City, with plenty of free parking nearby. Our sincere thanks go out to HCC President Gwen Stephenson, Ybor City campus President Dr. Shawn Robinson, and HCC Ybor Performing Arts Center Manager, Keith Arsenault. You will love this 240-seat remodeled theater, and look at our lineup below!

FEDERICO BRITOS & JORGE GARCIA ENSEMBLE

Our first concert at our new venue will be on Sunday, October 11, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. Once again we will feature the remarkable musicians who played to an overflow crowd at the Gorilla last year. Violinist FEDERICO BRITOS from Uruguay has shared the stage with Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie and Antonia Carlos Jobim; he has received Grammy Awards for recordings with Charlie Haden and others, and was concertmaster of the Miami Symphony Orchestra. Guitarist JORGE GARCIA brings his melodious solos and supportive, rhythmic guitar work to this ensemble. He has performed with such greats as Tony Bennett, Richie Cole and Joel Gray. And they will have just the right accompaniment with two of the Bay Areas best: bassist Richard Drexler and drummer John Jenkins.

LARRY CORYELL & KENNY DREW, JR.

Sunday, November 1st at 3:00 p.m. we will welcome one of the great guitarists in jazz in his first Bay Area appearance in many years. Larry Coryell’s career spans four decades and more than 75 recordings. (He is an important part of the history of jazz guitar and in fact when Les Paul was unable to make his Iridium gig during his final illness, it was Larry who filled in). For this one-time event, the virtuoso guitarist is joined by pianist KENNY DREW, JR. Both artists are looking forward to this terrific get-together, and so are we!

And….coming February 28th, 2010, our annual concert with IRA SULLIVAN!
