Charles R. Boyer, owner and publisher of Jazz & Blues Florida, has been selected along with Dante Lime of The Gainesville Sun and Frank Braccco of UCF to judge entrants into the North Central Florida Blues Society's (NSCFBS) competition to find the best local blues band and duo/solo act to represent the Society at the International Blues Competition to be held in Memphis TN is 2010. The Blues Foundation is the organizer of this competition that brings the best performers from around the world for the largest blues gathering in the world. Two additional judges will be named prior to the September 20, 2009 event to be held at 5pm at the Kickin' Devil Cafe, 2017 NE 27th Ave in Gainesville.

Boyer has experience in IBC judging both at the local level for the South Florida Blues Society and at the national level in the 2008 semi-finals in Memphis. His background of publishing Jazz & Blues Florida, Florida's Online Guide to Live Jazz & Blues, and its printed predecessor, Hot House Florida, along with personally attending over 300 live performances each year provides the background needed to be a qualified and unbiased judge of North Central Florida's blues music talent. He also is a founding board member of the Jazz Arts Music Society of Palm Beach.

To be eligible to enter the competition, bands or individuals must be based in Alachua, Marion, Levy, Putnam, Gilchrist, Columbia, Union or Clay counties, and at least one member of a group must be a full NCFBS member.
