Mick Kolassa lives in Memphis but was born in Michigan and lived in Mississippi for nearly 30 years.  He has played Blues in solo and duo acoustic formats and with his bands for years. He has performed at multiple Blues festivals in North America and Europe and has played many of the top Blues clubs. Mick has been playing the Blues for a long time with a style he likes to call “Free Range Blues”.  He’s not tied down to one style, be it Delta blues, Piedmont, country Blues, Chicago Blues, or Memphis–style soul Blues. He has a voice that suggests years of marinating his vocal cords in bourbon and fine cigars. As a songwriter, his witty lyrics center on the Blues’ traditional concerns.

Paco has been thrilling Gainesville audiences for many years. His style is difficult to categorize and uniquely his own. The most recurrent comment you’ll hear from guitar players in the audience is that he plays chops that you don’t hear from anybody else. His vocals have an ease and sincerity which makes him relatable to practically every audience. Although he plays many genres, he always seems most at home playing the Blues. He is also currently the lead guitarist with Little Mike and the Tornadoes.

The North Central Florida Blues Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation, cultivation, nurturing and promotion of Blues Music. The Society also hosts monthly electric and acoustic jams. See website for more information.

Fort Lauderdale Visitor Information

The Gold Coast Jazz Society is a not-for-profit organization that is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of jazz music through a mainstage concert series, free community concerts, educational programs, a jazz scholarship program and musical services provided by the Gold Coast Jazz Society Band.

Gold Coast Jazz Society History
Frederick G. Ruffner, Jr. had a vision to bring more jazz to the “Gold Coast” area of South Florida.  In 1992, Fred and a group of avid jazz buffs made this vision a reality by forming a non-profit organization called the Gold Coast Jazz Society in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Following its formation, the GCJS developed a concert series, which was presented in the main dining room of the historic Riverside Hotel, located on the famous Las Olas Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale.  As the concert series continued to grow and expand, a larger venue was required.  The concert series was eventually moved to the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, located in the Arts & Science District of Fort Lauderdale.  Today, the seven-concert jazz series continues to be presented in the Amaturo Theater each year from November through May.  Over the years the Society has grown and expanded to include the presentation of jazz education and community outreach activities, the Jeanette M. Russell Jazz Scholarship Program, and many special events throughout the year.

Funding for this organization is provided in part by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners as recommended by the Broward Cultural Council, the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs and the Florida Council on Arts and Culture and is supported by Funding Arts Broward, supporting innovative local visual and performing arts in Broward County.  Concert Series sponsors include American National Bank, Morgan Stanley, and the Mary Porter Fund of the Community Foundation of Broward.  Sponsored in part by the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs and the Florida Council on Arts and Culture.

Additional Concert Series Sponsors Include:
