Blues music continues to stand at the foundation of much of today’s African American musical expression. The Blues on the Patio Spring and Fall series, presented by the North Central Florida Blues Society, highlights that legacy through performances by local and regional artists. In addition to live music, the series supports a sense of community among blues audiences and reinforces ongoing Blues Education efforts, including opportunities that encourage youth involvement. Admission is FREE and open to the public.

Florida blues artist Beautiful Bobby Blackmon returns to Gainesville to launch the series at the A. Quinn Jones Museum & Cultural Center, bringing his established blend of soul, R&B, and blues guitar. With a career that has taken him throughout the South and beyond, Blackmon remains an active and respected presence on Florida stages. His past appearances alongside artists such as B.B. King (2010) and Buddy Guy (2008) reflect the level of performance he continues to bring to each engagement.

Blackmon’s approach to the blues reflects a broad understanding of the genre’s range, moving naturally between styles while maintaining clarity and intent. His stage presence is relaxed and attentive, allowing each performance to develop in response to the material and the audience.

Whether performing familiar favorites or original compositions, his work reflects a connection to blues tradition while remaining current in delivery. His appearance in Gainesville opens the series with a performance grounded in experience and well-suited to a program built on community and continuity.

As this annual series continues to grow in popularity, attendees are encouraged to bring a spare chair in case seating is filled.

The A. Quinn Jones Museum & Cultural Center, housed in the former Jones Family home, serves as a tribute to one of the most influential educators in the history of Alachua County. The museum features a permanent exhibit on “Prof” Jones, the people and places of the Fifth Avenue/Pleasant Street neighborhood, and a collection of oral histories centered on the African American experience in Gainesville.
