Friday April 29, Saturday April 30, 2016 Miami Jazz Cooperative Celebrates Duke Ellington's Birthday and International Jazz Day w/ twelve hours of live performances over two nights by more than seventy great musicians including Joe Donato, Rose Max and Ramatis, the Miami Jazz Trio, Nicole Henry, Ed Calle's Latin Grammy winning big band, MAMBLUE, Wendy Pedersen, Davis and Dow, the Miami Saxophone Quartet, and Chuck Bergeron's South Florida Jazz Orchestra with guest Nicole Yarling! Gregory Porter, winner of the 2014 Grammy award for best jazz vocal album, is releasing a new CD on Blue Note Records on May 6.  Blue Note has shared the new CD with the MJC and we will have a "listening party" beginning about 5:20 PM on both Friday and Saturday, before our program of live music begins.  Then, on each day, at about 5:55 PM, we will have a drawing for a CD autographed by Gregory Porter (sent after the release date). The MJC Monday Night Rent Party is South Florida's highest caliber weekly jazz event, with great musicians, a great piano, a great sound system, and a great audience. Tell them to join the MJC mailing list at www.miamijazz.org   The MJC's home for its famous Rent Parties, is worthy of our musicians and our audience, EVERY MONDAY NIGHT at 8 PM and occasional special event nights.  General admission is $10.  Reserved seating $20.  MJC Patrons and students with ID are admitted free.   Open Stage Club is one block north of Miracle Mile and one block west of Douglas Road (37 Avenue).  Open Stage Club is located on the street level of a municipal parking garage with plenty of convenient parking (garage entrance around the corner on Aragon Avenue).  There is metered parking available on the street.  Our advice is to park in the garage so you don't have to worry about the meter.
