Shaped the Big Band and Transformed America’s Music.

     Prohibition, ragtime, urbanization, technology, the Great Migration and

     the mob were among forces transforming early jazz into America’s pop

     music of the swing era.  Share archival videos, recordings, photos and

     discussion as we explore the great bands, cities and venues that shaped

     the music of the era.

     From 1935-45 big band jazz became America’s most popular music and the

     centerpiece of our first “youth culture”.  Re-live those exciting times through

     archival videos and photos, recordings and discussions as we explore those

     great bands, soloists and singers, and their impact on today’s music.
