Jazz Singer Gretchen Parlato—With Frost JV1 Ensemble at Festival Miami Nov 5

Vocal Stars Brighten the Night

SHELLY BERG, piano

KATE REID, director

The mesmerizing American jazz singer Gretchen Parlato has performed and recorded with Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Kenny Barron, Esperanza Spalding, Terence Blanchard, Marcus Miller and Lionel Loueke. Winner of the 2004 Thelonious Monk International Vocal Competition, she is considered one of the most inventive vocalists of her generation. Herbie Hancock describes her as, “A singer with a deep, almost magical connection to the music.” This evening features Parlato in two inspired settings: performing in beautiful harmony with the Frost Jazz Vocal 1 Ensemble (JV1), artfully directed by Kate Reid…and also in a full-circle duo setting with pianist Shelly Berg, one of her early jazz mentors
