The astonishing pianistic and technological talent of Dan Tepfer will be on display as he follows the arc of J.S. Bach and his impact on modern jazz in “Bach to the Future,” an incredible journey.

Dan Tepfer is one of this generation’s most extraordinary and brilliant talents, earning an international reputation as a pianist-composer and AI innovator with wide-ranging ambition and individualism. By looking at his tour schedule, it’s impossible to predict what Dan will do next. He has performed around the world with some of the leading lights in jazz and classical music, spending a decade as sidekick to the late, legendary alto saxophonist, Lee Konitz, and then becoming a favored accompanist to soprano Renée Fleming.

Whether it is his extraordinary original and improvisational expressions of Bach’s Goldberg Variations/ Variations or the ingenious intersection between science and art in Natural Machines, Dan Tepfer unfailingly thrills and astounds.

The New Jersey pianist has had a long career as one of the area’s swingingest pianists. His band features NY all-stars with renowned tenor saxophonist Eric Alexander, bassist Joe Martin and the incomparable drummer, Billy Hart.

One evening on a gig, pianist David Kikoski was told by his saxophonist, “man you are in ‘K-Mode’ tonight.” David loved the reference immediately. Subsequently, that sobriquet evolved into “Kayemode” as it became not just the title of a 2016 album, but also the name of his band. It is true that Kikoski can frequently get into that hard-core beast-like state of effervescent, muscular swing.

On this date, along with preferred rhythm section mates Joe Martin on bass and the splendid, venerable drummer, Billy Hart, is tenor saxophonist Eric Alexander, who has been a South Florida JAZZ favorite for several years, now making his fourth appearance. Alexander is one of the most respected and also prolific artists on the jazz scene.

The Bridget Kelly Band plays their first concert of 2021, and you can see it in person (limited social distanced seating) or via streaming! It’s at the High Dive Sunday April 25, and it’s a North Central Florida Blues Society event. Joining them will be special guest Trey Wanvig, an 18-year old phenom in the making from Sarasota, and Gainesville’s own Paco, playing an electric set with Rusty Valentine and Jonathon McCravy.

SAFETY GUIDELINES

• Temperature checks at the door. 99.4 is our limit. Those who exceed the max temp will be given a credit to a future show.

• Capacity will be limited to 39 people,

• Masks will be required inside at ALL TIMES.

• Drinking and eating will only be allowed OUTSIDE in the Beer Garden so there is absolutely no reason to remove your mask inside! All outdoor bar service will be at tables only. The show will be viewable from outside via TV and stereo relay.

• Standing / dancing will be permitted inside but only if standing directly in front of your seat or going to the bathroom.

• Online only advance ticket sales are highly preferred to minimize contact.

• An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. By entering High Dive, patrons voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19.

Brad Vickers & His Vestapolitans are delighted to see

and play for their Florida friends again in March. They look

Great American Roots’n’ Roll!

Guitarist/songwriter Brad Vickers learned on the job

playing, recording, and touring with America’s blues and

roots masters: Pinetop Perkins, Jimmy Rogers, Hubert

Sumlin, Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry, Odetta, Sleepy LaBeef,

and Rosco Gordon—to name only a few. Brad cut his

teeth backing up these elder statesmen. He had the good

fortune to play on Pinetop Perkins’ Grammy-nominated

discs, “Born in the Delta” (Telarc), and “Ladies’ Man”

(MC Records). Now his own group, The Vestapolitans,

offers a good-time, crowd-pleasing mix of blues, jump,

and great American Roots 'n' Roll.

Past performances include the Bucks County Blues

Picnic, Pennsylvania Blues Festival, Easton, PA Garlic

Festival, and headlining the 2017 Thouars, France Blues

Festival. Their 6 great CDs have met with terrific reviews

(Downbeat gives them ****½ stars), “Best Of ” lists, and

great radio play. But most important, audiences love them!

A funny thing happened to Joey Alexander over the past five years. A whirlwind period during which he became the most brilliantly precocious talent in jazz history, the youngest musician ever nominated for a Grammy Award in a jazz category; and a media favorite who’s earned a profile on 60 Minutes, a front-page profile in the New York Times and other premier coverage. As a pianist, composer, and bandleader, Joey Alexander is enjoying one of the most ascendant careers in jazz, thanks to his mind-blowing technique, innate musical smarts, and ability to communicate irresistible joy. His live performances have been equally celebrated. At the 58th Grammy Awards, in February of 2016, he played during both the pre-telecast and the primetime TV event. That same year, Alexander also performed with Wayne Shorter and Esperanza Spalding for the Obamas at the White House, as part of a nationally televised International Jazz Day special. In 2018, Alexander headlined Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Rose Theater with a 20-piece string section orchestrated and conducted by Grammy nominee Richard DeRosa. On October 18, 2019, he made his triumphant Carnegie Hall debut to a sold-out Zankel Hall crowd.

Early on in Alexander’s ascent, the trumpeter and Jazz at Lincoln Center leader Wynton Marsalis said that “there has never been anyone … who could play like that at his age.” Marsalis, who essentially “discovered” Alexander via his YouTube videos and invited him to New York, was spot-on in his assessment. And today, with his newest album release, WARNA, one can say that Joey Alexander continues to perform at the highest level.

JazzAid Live at the Banyan Bowl is an eight concert jazz series streamed live from the Pinecrest Gardens' Banyan Bowl Amphitheater. In an effort to both save the famed series this year and help feed families across the nation, the Village of Pinecrest will make this iconic jazz series available to anyone with internet access.

A generous portion of the proceeds from JazzAid Live will go directly to World Central Kitchen founded by acclaimed international Chef José Andrés to help to feed families affected by the pandemic.

Tickets are $15 per show, or you can purchase the full subscription series for a reduced package rate of $100 for all eight shows. Concerts will air only once at 8:00 p.m. ET the day of the concert on any internet based device including some smart TVs, computer monitors, tablets and smartphones.
